Defiance Season 3

Some free-to-play games are more polarizing than others, with some sides taking the stance of "great, totally non-exploitative implementation" and others thinking "total pay-to-win trash." We'd like to see on what side of the spectrum the gaming public -- and by that, we mean you guys -- think of certain F2P games, and so we've invented something new called Love It Or Hate It?

Every week, we'll present a new F2P game and give you the option of passing judgment on it. Then we'll look back at it the next week and see what people thought. There are no prizes, except for the satisfaction of knowing you clicked on a button and made something happen. Really, what else do you need?

Last week, we asked for your opinion on TERA and the response was overwhelmingly positive, with 52% choosing "Love" with only 10% in the "Hate" territory. It's probably best that I don't state my own opinion on the game, so MOVING ON...

Let's try something a little different this time: Trion's open-world shooter TV-show-made-buy-to-play-gone-free-to-play game Defiance!

Pros: Open-world action, solid voice acting and cut scenes, variety of gameplay modes
Cons: Ties to show can be restrictive, questionable enemy AI

Tell us what you think of Defiance, and leave a comment below to expound upon your views!

Defiance is a great game. But only if you are in an active Clan.
When you do things together, communicate constantly, use the clan and friends teleport system and trade or give guns to your lower peeps, this game rocks.
If you are a alone and not so sociable, then it is still fun, but not for long, unless you are a 100% achiever, then you will have a lot to do.
I am still not level 6000, but almost...

The game is great. I read in comments about people having lag in the game but I never had lag, neither in massive coop events. I don't even agree with the article author about the cons "questionable enemy AI" because the enemies are smart enough to make the game hard enough to be enjoyable, not less than enemies in other games. In massive coop actions they can be easier to destroy due the very large number of players but in solo missions they show a good AI. Some missions are very very hard if you do them when you should really do them (with the right level and not when you are already too strong for them) and also with higher EGO level the adaptive enemy level feature gives great fun (enemies automatically level up with the higher player level). I just would like this adaptive features could give a little more strenght to the enemies to make the fight even more challenging. Nevertheless the game is very good, it is totally free, totally no p2w, and the enemies loot so many weapons that you can barely find the room for them in your inventory (if you like to collect weapons really you should consider buying inventory expansion also if not needed to succesfully play the game).

Better PvE than War Frame. Good boss fights. Great voice acting. Good graphics. MEH crafting. Nice weapon combinations etc. Good dungeon and group finder. Meh population. Never saw the show. Over all it is a great game, just wish more people played.

The game used to be fun now it's just very laggy and has way to many bugs to enjoy it much anymore. Being over 5k ego rating kinda puts you at a standstill in leveling since the only way to continue leveling is by doing all the persuits to get more levels. It might be enjoyable again if they fixed all the bugs and lag issues and added experience gain for people with high ego levels.

Love it.
This game gots alot of good content that nobody cares about. The most run Arkfalls or doing deathmatch mode.
Basically this game have a lot of good times with me. I ve started playing on Pc and enjoyed it. After a while i changed to go to xbox 360 and i am loving it more.
The graphics are terrible on xbox but i feel more comfortable to hang on couch and playing it.
The population on xbox is recently high after went to free to play.
Weekends there is alot of people playing various of content that can be played well. And i found alot of cool guys online to play alot modes now. I am still active playing and i cant wait to see the 3rd seasson of that Series too.

I dont know what you guys think but i dont like perfect games. They lose their charme as well as i dislike the lags on defiance.

Love it but LAG!

I love the game especially using the Castithan charge blades and it was fun to do the game story while watching the series at the same time. But I hate that the game is from Trion, the lag is annoying, and it needs a decent PC to play... Anyway I will play it again when I get a better PC... so I LOVE IT!

Lag killed it for me

Amazing game but literally no replay value for a MMO.

Every time I think "Man I want to go back and play this game again" - I do and you know what I end up doing? Running around to arkfalls and doing nothing else, because arkfalls are simply the best way to level up by far, so there's no reason to do anything else, which is why nobody is doing anything other than arkfalls...

So... good game for a while, but not really playable for a long time.

What I've played of Defiance I have liked. It did a fairly decent job of creating public events to engage in. The level scaling during said events could sometimes be wonky though.

I did enjoy the storyline missions though I found it odd that various elements seemed to conflict with the TV show. In the game E-Rep is portrayed in a positive light where as in the show they're mostly seen more in a more negative light. In the show the Irathient are portrayed as misfits or outcasts from society where in the game they're very much integrated into society. Also the Castithans don't quite match up between the show and game either. You could explain a lot of this due to the fact that the town of Defiance isn't on the front line and the Bay Area very much is but it still felt like a jarring disconnect between the two.
