The name MechWarrior Tactics may have some of you scratching your heads. After all didn't we just have a MechWarrior game released? Yes we did; but besides similarities in name and the burning desire to annihilate thy enemie's team in a hail of rockets and lasers, the two games have incredibly different gameplay.

While MechWarrior Online is a tactical mech simulator/shooter, MechWarrior Tactics is a turn-based tabletop-esque strategy. Tactics which is being developed by Roadhouse Interactive, was very much inspired by the original BattleTech tabletop game which actually spawned the MechWarrior series altogether.

In Tactics players control a group of 4 mechs and participate in 1v1 matches whereby each player moves and fires in asynchronous turns. This translates into actions being selected individually but resolved simultaneously. The game features the ability for players to collect a variety of mechs and customize them with various equipment. In order to gain access to new mechs, players must purchase or find STACs, which are essentially booster packs which contain mech chassis. Like collectible trading card games, some mechs will be much rarer then others and can even come with additional customization options.

The game just went into closed beta today and began offering Founder's Packs for sale. The packs come in three varieties ranging from $20-$120 dollars. Besides immediate beta access; all packs give players additional C-Bills (ingame currency), exclusive mech units, and other cosmetic goodies. You can find the full details below:

I can't see what my parts say in the mechlab. The words are really dark in front of a dark background and they're really small words, at that. I think this game might be for people that have widescreen monitors. I'm at 1024x768 and a good bit of the game hangs off the side of my screen. I tried holding control and scrolling down on my mouse wheel to zoom out, but that only made the unreadable words even harder to read.

I don't think this game is made for poor people with square monitors at all. If i can't read what is happening in the mechlab I can't build a proper mech and thus can't play the game.
