RuneScape is an MMORPG that will seemingly never die. Every time you begin to think the MMO may be on its last leg it rises again, like a Phoenix from the ashes. The latest incarnation of RuneScape changes the aesthetic landscape of the world of Gielinor once again, and this time it moves it more inline with other modern browser based MMOs.

Utilizing a new HTML 5 engine, players who enter RuneScape 3 will see a massive improvement in graphic quality, longer draw distances, new audio, new design features and a world changing content update as the game moves into its 6th age. According to Phil Mansell RunesScape’s Executive Producer, “RuneScape 3 is going to run faster, look better and feel so much more immersive”.

The update isn’t limited to just the looks of the game though. RuneScape’s Creative Director, Mark Ogilvie commented, “RuneScape 3 marks a significant moment in RuneScape’s history as the world enters the 6th Age. All our recent content updates have been building up to this point, massive change is coming, and our players will be able to shape the game with the choices they make. Every single player will have the ability to shape the world.”

More details will be made available in the coming weeks. Until then, you can check out the RuneScape 3 video announcement above.

The screenshots look pretty (although the proportional size of players to buildings looks weird), but that’s not what made RS great, and that’s not why people are fleeing for their lives from the shitstorm that is “EOC” to the old school servers. The whole video they gush about the graphics and a bit about the story. RS is about having a vast open world, dozens of skills to train, grinding and working hard to achieve something over a long period of time, and constantly being at risk of losing valuable items you’ve obtained if you die. Detailing those aspects is how they should have announced the game.

Wow so it’ll have the graphics of the first Everquest from 1999? Pfft. Yes let’s please settle for less just because it’s “free”…oh wait, tons of games nowadays are free and both look and play better. Clue in Jagex. Being free is not an excuse anymore. There are dozens of studios who produce games that both look and play better and demand not a penny. Anyone who is going to play this is settling for less..and that is sad. Demand more. Gamers these days control the market. Being complacent and lazy will get you crap like this and the annual CoD release of “more of the same”.

Demand more. Expect more. We drive the market. Free is not an excuse to look and play like a pre-year 2000 mmo.

I used to enjoy playing RS would then take a break and come back, and like always they destroy the game then try to implement changes to get the players back, The first destruction was with the GE and limited trades, Second was the Evo of combat which was TERRIBLE takes away the specials of items so your items are essentially shit and add skills which are pointless.

Whenever a game makes a sequel, EVERYONE complains that they’ve changed too much (ex EQ2). Whenever someone keeps the same basic game but overhauls it greatly, they complain that it was called a sequel instead of an update. They can never win.

Just because they kept the core of the game, doesn’t mean it didn’t change enough to be ver 2.0 or 3.0.

These damn idiots… Runescape is still up, for more than 10 years… you say its shit?…
no there’s a reason, that your tiny little brains cannot find…. its simply unique, ever since it began there’s nothing like Runescape. Every single RPG until now was the same as the other before, Runescape is the only exception.
The economy and grinding is surely hard, but that just makes it more worthwhile, than a game you can get to the max level in 3 months. The EoC was surely necessary, one of the biggest complaints about Runescape was ALWAYS the combat system, now they did something about it, they created an unique battle system that differs from any other, and all they do is complain, because they can’t see how bad it was before.

Everyone says it was better when they were children, and played it years ago, that’s because everything looked better when you where a children. Now they are making it actually better, but all they think about is how it was before.
Do you still like the cartoon you watched when you were 5? Watch it again an you’ll know its shit now. Runescape isn’t like that, they abandoned the past, and moved on.

But haters and mindless gamers who think hunting the same monster for hours in a 3D graphically extravagant non-innovative world is gaming, will surely hate.

lol, funny how the fanboys get all butt hurt when people call runescape lame.first off ffxi before grounds tomes and field tomes and abby was a grind fest but was fun.runescape is a grindfest that sucks, reason being rs is a antisocial wasteland.at least before ffxi went all cake walk it kept idiots and trolls away.RS on the other hand has been a breeding ground for those types.Add to it the economy in rs is worse then Cyprus is these days.having to spend an entire day to just skill up once or several days to level up once is dull.being uber grindy doesn’t make it hardcore or interesting.Oh and saying it’s been around for ten years also doesn’t mean it’s good.considering the game is populated with mostly dumb ass kids that don’t realize they are being ripped off just means the game’s devs know how to scam stupid people. But hell snake oil dealers were doing that forever in the real world.I get it you spent way too much time and money on a crap game. And to admit the game sucks would make your investment a complete waste.Just accept like many of us have done when we were young that we wasted time and cash.

Dude, i ain’t a ‘fanboy’, i don’t even play this game anymore because i have a job now.
And its not an ‘antisocial wasteland’, Runescape repeatedly brings players together, there are even group questing worlds, and almost all mini-games require groups, and there are also clans…
        What the ** is ‘ffxi’….
Runescape’s economy is the only one that actually works as a in a proper society, as all item’s costs depends on its quantity on the market, level required and a lot of other circumstances. (Different from the other games, that selects prices based on the loot a player gets at the level.)
And fucking no, it doesn’t take a day to level, unless you are almost 99 and really lazy. Remembering also that its not so repetitive, as there are tons of different ways to level abilities at all levels.
And yes, 10 years means that the game never died, it never went under 80 millions unique access per week. And many other games just get closed and the players have to change for closed servers.
And no kids, pools confirm that most users are around 14-19. 9-13 Years represents only 19% of the players nowadays.
And there has never been scam in Runescape history… unless you prove me wrong. What you cannot.
And money should never be a problem for Runescape, because its not completely P2P, theres a F2P that also gets lots of updates and new missions every year, although not as much as the members, who have access to more 10 years of quality assured content development.

Now would you spare my time with such stupid bullshit, and learn to respect a game that surely deserves it? Not only for its years and players, or community (which is also one of the biggest RPG communities), but for those could have the chance of playing an amazing game but choses not to because, they had read thoughtless hater comments like yours.

PS: You’re an asshole for making me lose 8:42 minutes typing this!

and you’re an idiot for getting butthurt over a shitty game, good job wasting 8 minutes of typing

          fun fact: scams in runescape exists, an example is pasted below;

          “Dear Player,

We regret to inform you that your account has received an infraction due to a Major Macroing offense. Please visit the appeal section under Account Management to view evidence of your infraction(s) and to appeal any infraction(s) that you feel were unjustified.

To view the evidence please click here: http://secure.runescape.com/m=weblogin/loginform.ws?mod=offence-appeal&ssl=1&expired=0&dest=account_history.ws (if you hover over this link in your emails, it comes up with one URL letter different in the word runescape)

Please note: Due to a recent bug in our infraction system, some accounts may have received a void infraction. The majority of void infractions have been removed but we cannot ensure that all infractions have been removed. We urge you to visit the appeal section to appeal any unjustified infractions received due to system errors.

          Many thanks, Jagex Ltd.

God I hate the amount of grinding one needs to do. I say Runescape used to be fun for us back when we were noobs because we didn’t know much about it. Now that we know a lot more about it you want to have the best stuff even when you don’t have enough money. Lastly I don’t want to spend 1 or more hour(s) just to level up once in a certain skill doing repetitive tasks. That is what made me lose interest in the game. The intensity of the the grinding one needs to do to get any were.

It is indeed RS3, when RS2 launched it became 3D, in RS3 they are completely remaking the game, its not just and update, its a REMAKE!! Felt the difference?

I played a lot of RuneScape when I was younger, and it was really fun, the quests and the skills and ways of leveling were pretty cool, and I always loved the holy days events, and when I stopped playing, the graphics were not the major reason, but kinda got tired of everything not chancing much. I may give this a try for the old times and see if they didn’t change what made it good and did some good improvements.
