World of Battleships renamed to World of Warships

Wargaming, the company behind the extremely popular World of Tanks, announced today that they would be changing the title of their upcoming naval title World of Battleships, to just World of Warships. "The company is gearing up, and so are its titles," said Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming. "In addition to more accurately reflecting the game's core essence, World of Warships™ will correspond more closely to the framework of our Wargaming universe."

While we wont deny that World of Warships certainly has a better ring to it then World of Battleships, there is a question when it comes to how this will be abbreviated. Wargaming's first title in the series, World of Tanks has adopted the abbreviation WoT among its fans. With World of Warplanes currently in closed beta one can assume it will adopt a similarly abbreviated name such as WoW, and although World of Battleships' abbreviation may have been a tad silly to say out loud "Hey want to try out WoB?" at least it would still be unique. What do you think of the name change? Is it too close to World of Warplanes? How would you abbreviate it? Let us know in the comments.

World of Warships is scheduled to set sail sometime in 2013

WoA . . . . WoT? . . . WoW!! . . . . pretty silly to me.

World of Airplanes, World of Tanks, World of Warships . . .

WoW will always refer to World of Warcraft.

The name doesn't really make a huge difference but the fact that two of their games will be most likely referred to as 'wow' by many is kinda an odd choice being all under the same company banner. And there is the factor of the other 'wow' becoming a bit of confusion when referring to what game you are paying. Anyone who thinks about it though will probably call world of warships 'wows' since warships can be divided into two words meaning the same thing so there you have it.

WoT, is Trash, World of Warplanes is Trash, and what you think they produce next??
He cant make other than Trash, show the Video or play the closed Beta from WOWp and you can see it.
And WoT is pay2win, or farme to win, you take what you want, but to many noobs have by to high tanks and cant can drive them.
The game have switch from a simulation to a low lvl arcade game.
Not even better development than WoW.

I can't wait for WoWS. Also, WoT no P2W. You can get gold rounds from clan wars, which is where gold rounds are mostly used. Premium tanks are not overpowered, they are matched with tanks their level, they just get a higher credit pay out per match. You can pay to get to higher tiers, but since tier 3 tanks are matched with other similar tiers, not high end tier 10s, getting a higher level does not equal power. I love this about Wargaming's games.

premium tanks are used to get money, not for clan wars

Allright, getting back to the original topic... How can we differentiate abbreviations World of Warships and World of Warplanes? Well, it's simple. World of Warplanes is being called WoWP by it's internal testers and alpha testers since the beginning of the project. And World of Warships = "WoWS". Easy as that...

I think they WANTED to make it's name similar to World of Warplanes. Or they may change name of World of Warplanes soon as well. You know, they wanted to call it World of Planes at first, but there was another game in development that had just that name. First it was "World of Planes", now it's "War Thunder: World of Planes".
