If upcoming MOBA options like Heroes of the Storm still seem too hardcore for you, then Spacetime Studio’s got your fix, with Call of Champions, which offers fast-paced 3v3 matches for mobile designed to take only five minutes. Five minutes!

Spacetime just released a trio of videos detailing Call of Champions’ core game concepts: the Orb, which increases the damage done by defending turrets while protecting your attackers from the enemy turrets; powerups, which grant your champion a boost to his or her abilities and can be distributed to your team; and the class system, which is about what you’d expect in a MOBA.

Yeah, it’s another MOBA, but the Orb and powerup systems are at least a little innovative, and you have to admit, if you’re going to make a MOBA for mobile devices, keeping the matches short is a shrewd move. Currently in alpha, Clash of Champions is set for a 2015 release on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch and on Google Play for Android devices.

Though they might be taking the “five-minute” thing a bit too seriously. Their chief vision officer — an interesting title in its own right — is named Cinco Barnes. Cinco. Spanish for “five.” Really?

  1. 5 minute long matches? Go play Bloodline Champions. The best MOBA on the market imo. Better than LoL or DotA, which I don’t even consider such.

  2. Heroes of the Storm hardcore? No. As much as I enjoy playing HoS more than other MoBa’s, it’s definitely not as hardcore as something like League or DoTa.

That may be the reason I like HoS so much.

Off topic I know but I felt I had to point it out

  3. “We like MOBA’s but it’s been done…” So here’s the plan… WE MAKE ANOTHER MOBA, add a stupid orb people fight over, and pretend it changes everything!

I don’t get what they’re trying to say in the video. They like MOBA’s but it’s been done, and then they turn around, and make another MOBA, and all of a sudden it’s different? No, it’s still a MOBA, in competition with League of Legends, and yes, it’s been done before.

The entirety of their entire concept looks, and sounds stupid. People don’t only play MOBA’s for team fights. If that was the case, games like this, and that game EA had which just shut down, would be more popular, but they’re not. And needless to say, if Blizzard wasn’t backing Heroes of the Storm, it probably wouldn’t be doing as well as it is now. (Despite my love for Heroes of the Storm).

If these guys were smart, they’d scrap their game, save themselves the money of shutting it down 3 months down the road.

My opinion though, who knows, this game could take off. But I highly doubt it.

    • Why are you comparing this with League of Legends and Heroes of the Storm? Call of Champions is gonna be for mobile… if anything it’s gonna compete with Vainglory and some other MOBAs on mobile. ” People don’t only play MOBA’s for team fights. ” is kind of a general statement… everyone in this world have different tastes and genres in gaming, while teamfights may appeal to one person, it may not appeal to another… to each his own, and apparently you’re a a so called ”fanboy” because you seem to be hating quite a lot on new MOBAs coming out… What do you have to say about MMOs/MMORPGs/FPS’ games coming out constantly, do people complain about those saying it’s a copy/clone of another game? Yes! Every. Single. Time. Yet again, everyone’s got different tastes and if there was no new games coming out, there would be nothing in this world called innovation and originality… there might be a sh*t loads of games coming out but that doesn’t mean they’re all the same, they all (or most) have their own unique features that will inspire more and more games for the future… they might suck, be boring, not be original but theye could have that ONE SINGLE FEATURE that will inspire a big game developer to copy that feature and integrate it to THEIR game and then people will say ”Oh, you stole it from – THAT GAME -” but that’s called the future of gaming. That’s companies being rivals to you. That’s all they are.. stealing ideas from eachother but in the long run that will be the future of gaming – one day, that one perfect game will come out using the features that all of us gamers have been waiting for, that could be in 5, 10, 15, 20 years but in the end, if there’s anything or anyone you’re gonna be thanking, it’s those old games that inspired the developer of that ”perfect game” and that day, you’re gonna realize that having a bunch of bad games come out on a monthly/yearly basis was really worth it.
