The development team churning out new schematics and material for Heroes and Generals recently unveiled their latest update, within an 11th installment of their Beta Videolog– a video series that captures each period of Beta development. The new build is known as Oster, and introduces some interesting features into the build.

Newly added Mechanized Recon assault teams, which are an upgrade from Motorized Recon, bring about a larger and more accessible campaign map, as well as two new vehicles; the SdKfz 222 & M8 Greyhound. Recent upgrade in artillery include the MG34 German light machine-gun, and the American M1918 Automatic Rifle. Several tweaks and mods, such as a boost in hand grenade effectiveness and various power balancing improvements are also in working order.

Oster also features the 2nd installment of Hero Iteration, improving the way the camera functions, as well as creating more immersive realism by syncing the player avatar with its environment. This is largely attributed tho how aiming works, such as having the avatar hold the gun closer to its body while tucked next to a wall. Also, ammunition is now officially fired from the weapon itself, and not the camera, making the cross-hair less dependable when shooting from the hip.

All of these details and more can be found on the official site, as well as sign-ups for Open-Beta.

Only strategic part of the game and soldier management runs in a browser. Which, while being a questionable design decision, is nothing new (Battlefield 3 and 4). I think they’ve made it this way to make strategic part accessible from mobile platforms without much fuss. Besides, transition between browser and action part of the game is quite smooth.

Warface would have sucked even if it wasn’t on the browser.
