I’m not sure if the ArcheAge fans were expecting Kakao to announce another MMORPG in the franchise. If you weren’t… surprise! Sometime next year (2027) a new, more modern MMO titled ArcheAge S: Straight of Freedom will be launching on PC.

We don’t have a ton of information on the game at this point, only what’s in the press release. What we have been told is that the game will build on what fans expect from the IP while modernizing it for current audiences. The project is being headed by a familiar face, the original ArcheAge’s lead game designer Kim Kyung-tae, who is taking on the role of project director.

According to Kakao Games Co-CEO Siwoo Lee, the company believes that “ArcheAge S will deliver a fresh experience, while faithfully carrying forward the core appeal that has made the ArcheAge Ipe beloved by players around the world for many years.” He also ads that they “will work closely with XL games to ensure the franchise’s strengths resonate with players worldwide and prepare for a successful global launch.”

XL, for their part shared a statement from CEO Kwan-ho Choi who stated that the company is “delighted to partner with Kakao Games, whose expertise in MMORPG publishing and live service operations has been well established,” and that they’re “committed to faithfully preserving the identity of the original ArcheAge wile delivering a new experience”.
