New Lawsuit Filed Against Roblox In Oregon Alleging Child Grooming Incident
The plaintiffs accuse Roblox of putting the game’s growth ahead of the safety of children.

Here we go again. Earlier this week, a report was posted on the Fox 12 Oregon website about another lawsuit being filed againt Roblox related to alleged child grooming that took place over several years. The report mentions the girl being 8, although it doesn’t specify if that is her current age or the age at which things started. It also goes into some detail on the man’s actions via Roblox’s in-game chat. If you want the full details, you’ll need to head to the original article. The important part is that when the mom discovered what was going on, she reported it to law enforcement who discovered the individual wasn’t located in the US.
This isn’t the first time Roblox has been on the receiving end of legal action when it comes to protecting it’s younger users. The question is why it continues to happen. Wanting to grow your game’s audience is understandable, but if your primary audience is children, then you need to aware of that fact and respond accordingly. No system is going to be perfect, but this does seem to happen a lot.
Interestingly, the company did discontinue the video chat feature it had that allowed players to interact using their avatars, but the Party Voice feature remains.
According to the report on the lawsuit, the mother of the child in question stated that she wouldn’t have let her child “play the game had she known the chat feature allowed anyone in the world to message” her.
