On this week’s episode we talk about the recent cancellation of the Fallout-esque MMO Grimlands while discussing Survarium, the potential alternative to those seeking post apocalyptic MMO madness. We also discuss what truly constitutes an MMO sequel and whether a game like ArcheBlade is super hardcore with a high skill ceiling or just incredibly imbalanced. All of this plus some game closures and delays along with the weekly bombs on this episode of the Free-to-Play Cast!

If you have submissions for the show’s Weekly Bombs, have questions for the panel (nothing is off limits!), or just ideas for what you want covered you can now send them to michael@mmobomb.com. You can also be a guest in the show, just send us why you want to host, and what topic or game you would like to cover.

Great game can only be made out of innovation and technology. Age of Wushu is one of these type of game.

For fk sake, we europeans want Dungeon Fighter for years, and now they come with lame excuses ” we couldn’t atract more players” so what our money are not good ? and trow all the shiz games in EU so they can milk money, that is my bomb for NEXON,

    Signed a pissed off spammie.

    PS: Great Show Guys !
PPS: Grimlands is actually in a good state when they decided to stop developing, I played till last beta they had redone the interface and fixed most of the bugs. This is the only founding project that I spent my money because, I want this game to survive 🙂

Nexon sucks , and will suck forever 🙂 , i experienced some problems like that , racisim and ip block all the way despite what they claim to be , just ignore that company as many have done last 2-3 years ago , as you can c , they even removed the ip ban for some latino american users , they are about to cry for more public , but noone is going back to their shity games :). cheers.

I’m surprised you guys didn’t do your research before up loading this. Grimlands is on kickstarter now. They need 650,000 bucks before the end of the month to get the game back up and running. Check out their rewards for pledging, they’re pretty nice.

I’d say the biggest reason DFO failed here is not because of an audience, but instead because of complete negligence on nexon’s part. I gave up playing 8 months ago because of the amount of gold sellers, the ridiculous economy that game with it and the sheer lack of bug fixes and updates. Nexon did not bring the content fast enough. They took forever to fix bugs and of course thought it was a wonderful idea to use peer2peer on a continent far larger than korea, where the original game was developed.

Nexon and Neople sowed the seeds for their own failure from the start and it pisses me off since I invested over $100 in avatars. I genuinely loved that game. Evidently, people hate when hosts don’t give a damn about the games they provide and leave them to stagnate.

    • Golgo28 on April 10, 2013

Because it’s not a free to play mmo.it’s a buy to play.Don’t get me wrong it’s a awesome game haven’t put it down yet since the 2nd.But this site is about f2p games not b2p.

Da-bomb for Free 2 Play titles getting onto Steam, reaching out to more people that way. As an example, some of my friends didnt know about Warframe till they saw it on steam and now you cant drag them from it,

Question of the week: Untill DIsney get approached by developers, im gonna assume that Star Wars 1313 is cancelled / put on hold till further notice. It seemed to have alot of potential and for a Star Wars lore geek, i´d have loved to venture into the seedy underworld of Coruscant.

Great show guys, as always. Glad to see new hosts jump in every week, not that I have anything against others…it’s just nice to see some variation.

For QOTW: I’m really disappointed Starcraft Ghost never came out, it would’ve been so great.
And I’d like to give a “Da Bomb” to Portalus Games (which as far as I know is only 3 guys) for picking up Pirates of the Burning Sea. I really hope they bring some changes and maybe disable the premium features to make the game real F2P and not freemium, or at least tone it down a little. PotBS is an awesome game, which is in dire need of more players.

    • Tyreal on April 10, 2013

Yea alot of people would have loved to see Ghost come out but blizzard sure a crafty in keeping all solutions open seen in this post from a few days ago: http://www.cinemablend.com/games/StarCraft-Ghost-Isn-t-Dead-54462.html

      • eunusunt on April 10, 2013

Thanks for the link! That gives a small glimmer of hope, although it doesn’t mean it’ll ever be out for sure. In any case, they would have to pretty much rebuild it completely…except some mechanics and quest line, lol.

Great video Free to Play Cast. I’ve got a question for y’all and was hoping you could give me your opinions on it. Destiny, Bungies new Buy to Play game which will probably release later this year has a lot of hype. I’ve read about it, seen the gameplay and pictures, and I’m planing to buy it on the “Xbox 720”. Do you think it will live up to all the hype as the mmo to play or do you think that it will fall short of all the hype and be a dissapointment? Im personally hopeing it’s the next wow, and that it will live up to the hype, but the hype is pretty massive for this game.

    • Mystika on April 10, 2013

I’m not part of the F2P cast, but my opinion is that you should NEVER pay attention to the hype. Look at a game’s strengths and weaknesses on its on merits, not because of hype created by fanboy/fangirls. Take GW2 for example. Way overhyped. Say what you want about how it was overrated (many will I’m sure), but the fact is that if it wasn’t overhyped, it wouldn’t be looked at as overrated (well at least, not to the degree that it is currently).

Both critic ravings and over-loyal fans can create the illusion that a game is good (and sometimes bad), but it’s up to you to get down into the nitty gritty details of it to see what the game really holds for you personally. Just because heaps of critics and users say it’s great, doesn’t mean you will personally find it’s great.
