For the question of the week: In a word, ew. I’d much rather be able to buy what I want than have to pop open box after box to get jack and crap. Especially with my luck. Unfortunately I have technically bought lockboxes in SWTOR, only with the monthly currency from being subbed, but I guess that still makes me part of the problem. I have never shelled out extra cash just for lockboxes though. If the mount or the appearance stuff is in a box, then I’ll just have to get it off the auction house.
These loot crates have turned me off from playing AAA games. I either play retro or Indie and haven’t regretted the move.
I’ve been proclaiming this for years. The bandwagon is looking crowded lately.
Lootboxes are gambling in all but name. They are the hallmark of shameless greed and lazy game design. It is a cancer to video gaming and I look forward to the inevitable (second) industry crash if the bean counters want to go down this path again.
In the meantime, I’ll be playing indie and classic games instead. Many of which are vastly superior in quality to the cynical cash grabs pinched out by contemporary AAA publishers.
If people want to spend their money on loot boxes then go right ahead no one is stopping you but don’t come crying when you get rip off. The chance of getting something rare or the same item in your collection list is base on RNG chance.
Might as well just turn the whole game into a loot box. Pay for the game and get a 10% chance it’s not even the game you wanted.

The lootbox are nothing but a gamble casino.
