After 30 Years In Business, Saints Row Developer Volition Is Closing Its Doors
The closure is part of Embracer Group’s restructuring program.
Before we start. Yes… We know this isn’t really multiplayer game news, but after 30 years in business, it’s worth at least a footnote.
Today, we got some news that we don’t really like… but we’re not sure everyone is going to be surprised by it. Saints Row developer Volition announced via LinkedIn that as part of the restructuring program announced back in June, Embracer Group has decided to close Volition “effective immediately”.
As we said, this probably isn’t the most surprising news – for a few reasons. One. It’s almost always a given that when a company is gobbling up developers, at least some of them are going to be gutted before long. Two, the company’s latest game, which rebooted the long-running Saints Row franchise, didn’t do as well as it could have. We won’t go so far as to say it was a flop. There were definitely people who liked it, but for a lot of people, it was a disappointment and the reviews ended up being mixed.
All that said, Volition has given us a lot of fond memories and some very fun times so this is sad news.
