Gamers be doing too much to cheat these days.

Blizzard has addressed the issue of unapproved peripherals in Overwatch 2, particularly on consoles. Unapproved peripherals refer to devices that allow players to use a mouse and keyboard on consoles, therefore exploiting the shooter's aim assist features intended for controllers. The company aims to maintain a level playing field across all platforms, emphasizing fair competition.

Detecting these unapproved peripherals has posed a challenge due to their design and anti-detection features, according to Blizzard. The team said they have been actively gathering data over multiple seasons to identify users employing such devices. An analysis revealed a prevalent use of unapproved peripherals in high-ranked play, particularly at Grand Master and Champion levels. Actions will primarily target these ranks to ensure fair competition.

Blizzard's strategy involves two phases of action against users detected using unapproved peripherals. In the first phase, players will face a one-week restriction from Competitive play while retaining access to Quick Play. Continued use of unapproved peripherals will lead to further restrictions, including forced play with other mouse and keyboard users in Quick Play and the removal of aim-assist features. Additionally, immediate actions will be taken against severe abusers, with permanent account bans issued in the coming weeks.

That being said, the company did mention potential official support for mouse and keyboard on consoles in the future.
