C++ is one hell of a tool and New World is using it to create the "Slayer Script."

When New World unleashes Season of the Guardian into the MMORPG next month, we already knew it would bring new artifacts, cooking and trade skill changes, and more. We also already knew that we could expect "combat and animation improvements", but that reveal was a bit basic initially. Oh, and don't forget controller support!

In a post from Tech Lead Kevin Christensen today, we get a bit of insight into how those animations are being improved, why, and what it means for the game's future.

Obviously, things looking smoother and running smoother are the main priority here. This may come as a shock (sarcastic face), but MMO code is huge and there's lots of moving parts, state updates, and memory needs.

The New World team has developed "Slayer Script" in C++ to tackle some of these challenges. In short, the new script, while still challenging to work with, comes with a lesser hit to memory and, more importantly to the team itself, an easier road to bug fixes, stepping through the code, and making additions and adjustments going forward. All of this while preforming at or near current performance...something the team wants your feedback on.

Admittedly, you have to really be interested in programming to get the most out of the post like I did, but if you like this kind of "back-room talk", the post is certainly worth a read.

As a reminder, Season of the Guardian is currently on New World's PTR.
