Season 8: Call of the Hunt drops today in Overwatch 2, featuring the introduction of a new hero. It’s Mauga, the tank that wields dual chainguns. There’s also a new 4v4 PvPvE mode called Battle of the Beasts, and there’s Weapon Skins now, a new customization feature.

Then on December 19, the Winter Wonderland event starts in the shooter game — bringing holiday-themed skins and game modes. Additionally, a five-week Hero Mastery event begins on January 2, allowing players to master Echo, Genji, Mei, D.Va, and Lucio with new challenges and rewards. The return of Prop Hunt in the Lunar New Year event on January 30 will ultimately conclude Season 8, featuring the Lijiang Night Market map.

Season 8 also means a new Battle Pass, with over 25 new stuff for players to earn for free (outside of the paid Premium version for additional rewards). Also, Blizzard finally responded to player feedback by making skins available for separate purchase in the Hero Gallery.

Note: Activision Blizzard has been sued by California’s Civil Rights Department, alleging violations of California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act and Equal Pay Act. CEO Bobby Kotick is alleged to have known about the alleged violations within his company. These allegations have all been denied by Activision Blizzard and the company points to additional diversity and inclusion training as past examples of taking the accusations seriously at the time they were made.
