Trading card games with RPG aspects, such as character progression
including most online tcg games.
Battleforge is a hybrid though it is an rts with mmo and tcg aspects

Personally, I liked the Alteil system the best, giving you much more strategic control over your cards than most other games.

I've tried Urban Rivals and Battleforge and kinda liked those as well.
(Tho I agree with Madwall. Battleforge is more of an rts)

The poor disadvantage of Battleforge and other TCGs is, that you have to buy Premium or Booster Packs to become better.

Free MMOTCG's do not exist, so that's the reason why I don't play them.

I wouldn't go as far as Loki for saying MMOTCG don't exist but there are a few attempts to make online TCG successful but...

When it comes to TCG i would say nothing beats the old fashioned "magic" cards that people used to carry around and play all over the place...(having to use our imaginations to picture the cards "fighting" each other was somewhat more interesting)
Anyway i found this "MMOTCG" wile surfing the net...its called Fantasy Masters

here is the link for who ever whats to check it out

Yu-gi-oh online, I would have sold all my things for those cards if the service didnīt suc so much. I mean konami have never heard of the word "service". They donīt even got a forum. But the game is pure 10/10.

Alteil oh how I wish to love it, too bad there are like 70 players online at peak hours. And they all got the best cards. Nobody to play against.

I play Urban Rivals and it's not required to pay to have new cards.
You can buy it at the marketplace and exchange it with the money of the game.

It's pretty difficult to make a true MMOTCG. Considering it is so easy to fit into a TCG game with online capabilities. The MMO part is what needs working on methinks.

The game is still adding new cards and just got out of beta awhile ago, but I'm playing Shadow Era. It's Magic the Gathering meets World of Warcraft. You can buy and sell cards you need or don't need by fighting NPC's and players in ranked matches.

Unlike other games which only allow a select group of people to beta test cards, they allow access to their test servers to EVERYONE. While (at present) you cannot buy packs with Gold you can use Gold to buy single cards. So, if you got the drive, you can buy all the cards without spending a dime. Or drop in about $10 to get a massive amount of cards (I kid you not on that):

It strikes me that as a franchise that Yu-Gi-Oh is positioned much better for an MMOTCG than Magic: The Gathering.

We've already seen M:tG shoot themselves in the foot with online play -- I totally hate the way they did Magic on consoles so far. I haven't seen how it works on Steam yet. I do know that thou canst play against other users and the like, but it's not exactly the level of an MMO.  :)
