Yet another modern military shooter has fallen by the wayside. Webzen originally had high hopes for their first FPS, Arctic Combat, when it was released last December. The game featured fast-paced gameplay with a more realistic portrayal of gore. Unfortunately the game began shutting down last week with the Item Shop, Download Page, and Inquiry Service already taken offline. Players who still have it installed on their PCs will be allowed to play until September 2nd.

As to why Webzen decided to shut down the FPS, speculation on the forums points towards a lack of anti-hacking enforcement from Webzen which caused a noticeable decline in community numbers.

To say thanks as well as goodbye, Arctic Combat players will be compensated with special AC Veteran packs. What pack you receive will depend on which one of three gaming portals, Webzen.com, gPotato.eu, or gPotato.com. Once you choose, you will receive your compensation based on the currency value of the chosen Portal.

For more reimbursement details you can check out the official post here. For a while, Arctic Combat seemed to have quite the competitive scene, at least in the West. Were you a fan of AC?

The act well, and why so?Because the saw the real facts and thats why the shut it down i believe most you understand of what im talking about so i would advice you keep your mouth shut if you have nothing goo to say back, atleast accept the reality things will never be the same I would also recall the company who made that game for several reasons,One The already know it 2 is something biggest that noone of you cant imagine,And i cant tell you why the shut it down but the did well,Some people will never realize the whats really count and what doesnt,The only that matter in your mind is to play the god damn game you dont read instuctions you just go in the enemy front line to kill you,”SHEEPS ” That will cost your lifes one day Mark my words, and dont try to play the smartass wont work not anymore atleast we know now with who we dealing with,If you want to survive you better change sides….Otherwise you will end up in 2 different directions Underground or Prison. You make your decision in this life i dont believe in fate,we all make our lifes,And we live with there concequences as well

seriously AC just brought me back to the old shooter days without all the BULLSHIT kids these days like.. cause it makes killing easy..
all i need is a gun 2 grenades and i own everyone lol.
i dont need airstrikes dogs rocketlaunchers railguns invisibility cloaks i can go on for ever..
just cause modern warfare is a fantasy world it doesnt mean it makes playing it like that makes it more fun.. if i play COD games seriously i get 10 kills and just bomb the shit out everyone.. withing 2 minutes everyone leaves.

    • ChrisHateZ on September 10, 2013

Erm… AC had airstrikes, helicopter, rocket launchers and things like that.

Whoa, didn’t expect so much hate for this game. I LOVED ac; I thought it was a fluid and solid shooter. It may have been generic, sure, but that’s why I liked it. No complicated vehicle combat, no strange unnecessary microtransactions, and no bullcrap that distracts you from the awesome core shooting mechanics. I thought the maps were great, the guns were balanced for the most part, and even though they were very lacking, the graphics kept the game running butter-smooth. Even the soundtrack was actually amazing. Maybe it wasn’t Blacklight or Planetside 2, but whenever I just wanted to chill and play a few rounds of a fun, simple shooter, you can bet your ass I loaded this up.

And you know what? In my months of playing, I cannot say I have encountered (or at least, noticed) ANY hackers.

    • Sooux on October 28, 2013

      hackers are like ninjas lol

they exist but they pretend to be a normal player…

i hope they thinking of wtf they did… i mean there’s they fault

i cant say the ak47 is over powered cause its obviousleey one of the best assault rifles used around the world

    • ChrisHateZ on September 3, 2013

The main reason Ak47 is used in high numbers is because it’s cheaper then most assault rifles and it’s easier to get then other rfiles. It’s also quite easy to clean and maintain. That doesn’t make it “one of the best assault rifles around the world”. So don’t talk about something you don’t know much about.

Anyway in AC the Ak47 was insanely overpowered. It was like automatic high damage sniper with almost perfect accuracy (while in real life Ak47’s accuracy is quite lacking when compared to other assault rifles). It’s range in the game was also one of the best and you could even beat people using snipers on long distance with Ak47 (while in real life Ak47’s effective range is also lower then some if not most assault rifles).

Great game shutting down because of the lame hacking !@#!# ppl!!!
Again!!!! I would like to thank the hacking community for making sure we are hostage to the same old fps games.
Every new game that comes out, will have the same fate if not attended by an anti-hack system. but it needs to be a good one (yet to be found).
I almost forgot, an special thanks to the brazilian community, they are one of the greatest users of hacking systems. Im Brazilian, dont get me wrong, i KNOW what im talking about. Every game released here is a pain in the ass to play, due to the huge amount of retards and their hacks.
Yay you did again guys, Good Job.

The game was fine in beta. Other than being limited on gun selection. I stopped playing after open beta when the cash shop completely killed it.

  8. player0003 on August 7, 2013

The game was actually cool, and I liked it.
But I also expect little numbers of players, just yet didn’t expect a shutdown so soon.

It took too long to launch the game, the game trailer was very cool when they announced it.
But when it actually came out, it has nothing unique.

The graphic engine was Unreal 2.5 and is really out-dated.

Hackers prevail the channel in the 2nd week of open-beta.

It’s a good F2P FPS afterall. But I won’t be missing it too much because many good ones are still available.

  13. from__hell on August 5, 2013

Can’t say I’m surprised, I played it a lot, but stayed away from it for the last 3-4 months, it’ wasn’t awful but there was just seemed to be no control over hackers, it was almost like playing combat arms

    • legend 1 on August 6, 2013

same situation loved playing it but i havent been on in some months but it was a fun game ima miss it

    • Sooux on October 28, 2013

there are never control of hacker….

yes it helps banning them but some of them is a really fu**ing nerd that can make it inpossible to ban those players….

for an example take the pc version of COD mostley every fu**ing player are hackers

well thats becuse there are some hacking programs that some players has made… every game has a weekness

  14. User on August 5, 2013

    Let put hackers aside

The game closed down because of Copy Call of Duty that why

Like said Games copy others will not last long

  15. Jooq on August 5, 2013

They are just clones of each other. Tried once and then I’ve forgotten that game. Same thing as A.V.A, Combat Arms, SF (SF2), District 187, Blackshot, etc… There are tons of this kind of games and they’re terrible with terribly made UI, and idiotic online shop. I’ve met people (in Combat Arms) who were giving out like tons of real cash for buying some shit which was like (for 7-30 days) Never understood that. Go buy Battlefield of COD and enjoy. For me the fresh air was Warface, at least with graphics it looked pretty and gameplay wasn’t bad..Anyways, personally opinion and have a nice day to every1 MMObomber.

  16. Boom! on August 5, 2013

Not really Surprise,When I was playing the game the recoil of the gun is not very nice plus the bullet travel very slow you can barely kill an enemy in mid range when certain guys…

  17. Surprise Surprise on August 5, 2013

I stopped playing this game a long time ago when I notice the bullet lag and they wouldn’t fix it.

  18. Rufinus on August 5, 2013

give solider front 2 a try. its the best fps out now

  19. Kimwer on August 5, 2013

YES, YES! There is good in this world after all.

  20. ChrisHateZ on August 5, 2013

I personally stoped playing that game few months ago because of Webzen’s terrible service. They used to do all kind of events and promise all kinds of rewards and in the end almost nobody would get them (even if you did everything you needed to).

I also wasn’t happy with the way weapons were unbalanced. Ak47 was super overpowered, there were like 1-2 more good weapons and everything else was inferior. The game was an Ak47 fest, everyone was using it, and you were kinda forced to use it too from time to time because it was just way too strong and if you didn’t you’d be in significant disadvantage. And Webzen didn’t want to make proper balance in weapons even though people made tons of forum threads and posts about it.

They did a LOT of mistakes. I’m really not surprised that the game is shutting down.

    • Anonymous on August 18, 2013

The G36 was better. Better precision, more power, higher damage points, etc. I don’t know why everyone used the AK47 when they could have used the G36 like I did. Nubs, lol.

      • ChrisHateZ on August 19, 2013

G36c was pretty bad at start. It was low accuracy and low damage weapon. After a while they added a patch that did a lot of changes to many weapons (they never released the actual patch notes on the weapon changes though). G36c got improved a lot, but most people didn’t even know that because they were just using Ak47 all the time.

        • CuddleBear on December 10, 2013

Chris mate what are you playing atm? ^_^

          • ChrisHateZ on December 10, 2013

            O hey there ^_^

Just playing single player games lately. Since most MMO’s atm are either pay-to-win or crap (and some are both lol).

            And you?

  21. hahahah on August 5, 2013

All these free shooter games suck. they are infested with hackers at day one of beta, if you cant protect your game don’t even bother releasing it.

  22. ugurano on August 5, 2013

    best game from shooter down

  23. Rikisak on August 5, 2013
