Did you ever play Chroma Squad or Dungeonland? If you did and enjoyed them, you may want to keep an eye out for the upcoming free to play Relic Hunters Zero, being made by some of the teams behind those titles. Relic Hunters Zero will be coming to Steam on August 18th and the source code will come with it.

You read that correctly, the source code will be free as well.

Why? I'll let creator Mark Venturelli explain, "We believe in making stuff we love just because it brings us joy. I started programming when I checked the source code of one of my favorite games of all time, Spelunky. We are doing this because we truly believe that the game can grow and become much better and more relevant if we build a community of modders and content creators around it, but that vision doesn't go well with a pay wall. If it’s a good game, we can make money off of the next one”

If you like the feel of a retro style shooter, bit music, and the ability to make your own game off of the game's source code if you wish, check out the Relic Hunters Zero site to get started.

I will never understand these indie developers that create by default retro 8-bit looking games and who pretend they are nerds. It's getting old and stupid because they are all such a retro try-hards.
