Starting Today, You Can Play Puzzle "MMO" Islands Of Insight Alone And Offline
This is honestly the way this great game should have launched.
I can't lie, I love puzzle games. When Islands of Insight was announced, I was intrigued by what a "puzzle MMO" could be. I love puzzles, I love MMOs, great, let's do this! When the game launched, I very much enjoyed it. It is still on my PC to this day months after I did the First Look video below. Not a lot of games make that mark!
One thing I expressed in the First Look, though, was my confusion at why exactly Lunarch Studios and Behaviour Interactive made this an "MMO." There aren't really any MMO elements. You can't chat. There's no real multiplayer-required puzzles. Hell, even partying didn't help all members progress on a puzzle. It felt like they just wanted a world where you saw other players and were required to be connected to their servers for whatever reason.
Today, that changes. Islands of Insight can now be played offline. Any systems that required multiple players have been removed from the offline version, and you don't need to connect to any server. This is honestly the way the game should have launched. Having the option to do either is great. I particularly like the idea of an offline mode as I do have concerns for the long-term finances of the game.
The game isn't expensive. Hell right at this moment it is 50% off at $14.99, but there's no recurring revenue stream that would have sustained server costs. I would have hated to see this game disappear due to finances.
Now, that's not a worry I need to have anymore. If you like puzzles, there's a lot of repetition in types of them in Islands of Insight, but I would highly recommend you check it out. It is a fantastic "have Netflix playing in the background and solve some puzzles" chill vibe.
