Infestation: The New Z

Fight against the zombie hordes and other desperate souls in Infestation: The New Z, a free-to-play survival game from the people who brought you Infestation: Survivor Stories. Explore a vast, open world, either on official servers or on a moderated server with its own rules set. Scavenge, hunt, and test your mettle against wildlife, zombies, and other survivors looking for an easy mark and loot.

In addition to its survival servers, The New Z offers beginner and warm-up servers, so new players can more easily get acclimated to the harsh environment, or you can try your luck on Battle Royale servers, pitting a number of survivors against each other in close-quarters death matches. Community features make it easy to find your friends, and you can create a clan for safety in numbers. Just don't turn your back on your "friends"...

I have been playing this game since it first came out as WarZ, then a couple of other names, until finally Infestation: The New Z. It has always been sketchy, but lately it has become absolutely unplayable. It takes several tries to connect to a server, and when you finally do, it's a coin flip whether you will be disconnected or not. If I manage to luck out and get into the game, I am frozen in place with 3999 fps showing. After about ten seconds or so, I am either disconnected or the fps goes to 25-35, which is at least playable. Unfortunately, though, that doesn't last. After a few minutes, the fps rate drops to single digits and I am either killed by the nearest zombie (can't defend yourself with no frame rate, right?) or the game hard crashes, and I have to three-button out. I have a fairly powerful custom gaming rig, and can run any game out there, except this one. In so much that this is the only game that gives me these sorts of problems, I feel confident that the problems are on their end, not mine.

I love the genre and wish that this game could get its' act together, but I am losing faith. After all the talk, having been sold and re-bought, it is still crap. In my opinion, I think that the developers are cheaping out with the servers, for they absolutely are not up to the task of providing a good gaming experience for the player base. I have other MMO games, and they are all server side games, which means that everything is controlled on the server side, not peer-to-peer. Thus, there are no hackers there. In this game, there are hackers everywhere. You cannot play this game for ten minutes without seeing players being banned. I believe that some of the stability issues could be resolved if they would take a page out of World of Tanks and go server side only. Also, they need to increase server power and capacity, as it is obvious that there isn't enough.

I could not recommend this game to anyone. When it does play, it is choppy. The graphics are bad, clipping is everywhere, there is barely any variety among the zombies, and when you get in a fight with one, the frame rate drops, you are killed without a chance to defend yourself, and anything you might have looted is lost. If that sounds like fun to you, have to it. For me, I re-visit the game now periodically just to see if anything has been done. To date, I haven't seen anything. You would think that the devs would be interested in gaining paying customers, but with the game as it is now, who would pay anything? I can assure any developer out there that my wallet will remain closed as long as this game remains the runny dog turd that it is now.

My rating for this game would be an epic fail. There isn't one redeeming quality here. Too bad, because as I've mentioned, I love the genre.
