There was that London based MMORPG.
Requeim Bloodymare (was good, never updated, left to die).
Secret world.
Some parts of current mmorpgs have dark themed maps.

Hahaha, :D ... nice one guys, so... so sorry to Mr. Winter, sometimes my fingers slide a bit and of course it's totally on point since I poked Mr. "Sharp"es about not being too "sharp" on the grammar last time, it's all good guys everyone slips up, from my point of view we all need a "consoler" this Chrismas :D
About the "horror", americans have a different "spin" on the concept, in Europe it's believed to be more of an environment than just the "jumping on your chair" fleeting emotion. As an example, it's the kind of environment you get when you see "Witcher 3 trailers" and I believe it could be easily achievable with a Bioware style storyline within a Souls (demon or dark) world style.
Bombs, Da-Bomb to Skysaga, me and my friends got a key to test out the game still in alpha, huge emphasis on detail and slick production on this one, also A-Bomb on #1 grammar, #2 Mr. Winter's (hah nailed it) cold (best of wishes on this one, get well soon) and #3 random pimples, also A-Bomb"s" from #4 to #1000 bugs, everywhere I play something is not the way it's supposed to or even crashes and this is not in random "alphas", it's in every game, are we just SO eager to get new stuff that no one even has the time to get them done properly or are people just getting slacky? What's going on?
Merry Chrismas everyone :)

I want to see mmo gamers quit whining about everything that isn't free. almost every game you play these days there are people asking if something is free then complaining when it isn't. wanting it to be free is fine as we all want a deal, but ffs the whinging isn't needed.

Da Bomb to Jason for being a trooper.

There already is/was a "legit horror based MMORPG". Emphasis on the use of "horror" instead of "scary", since those are two different things IMO. That MMORPG had:
1) dark oppressing world;
2) cool (for a F2P MMORPG) postapocalyptic story about demon invasion that devastated the world (ecosystems destroyed/mutated, towns turned to dust, continents rearranged, etc.) and forced its inhabitants to use demonic powers, cloning and heavy gene-alteration to survive (most newly bred defenders of humanity look overtly inhuman and all of them can turn into mosnters when in danger);
3) day/night cycle that spawned super-deadly monsters after sundown everywhere outside of settlements;
4) harsh penalties for dying and no rewards for playing it safe (no loot and exp if you're overleveled) which forced everyone to face danger in order to progress.
---
It never took off in the West though. Even here it went too softcore for its own good over the years, but it was pretty good while it lasted. Maybe it wasn't "horror" like Amnesia or Penumbra, but I think it was as close to horror as an open world MMORPG can get.
---
...Man, I still remember feeling like a badass demon slayer when after days/weeks of trial and error I've managed to build my character just right so that I could almost stand up to the nightmares. Some time after that I ended up leading a group of desperate players caught off-guard by nightfall through the wilderness to the safety of nearby town. Almost wiped a couple of times along the way, but damn it felt good when we've finally reached the walls. Nothing topped that feeling over the years of my MMO career.
