Star Trek Online (3)

Some free-to-play games are more polarizing than others, with some sides taking the stance of "great, totally non-exploitative implementation" and others thinking "total pay-to-win trash." We'd like to see on what side of the spectrum the gaming public -- and by that, we mean you guys -- think of certain F2P games, and so we've invented something new called Love It Or Hate It?

Every week, we'll present a new F2P game and give you the option of passing judgment on it. Then we'll look back at it the next week and see what people thought. There are no prizes, except for the satisfaction of knowing you clicked on a button and made something happen. Really, what else do you need?

Last week, we set Star Wars: The Old Republic in our sights, and the results were frankly better than I expected. 38% registered a "Love It" vote with only 20% saying "Hate It." BioWare's worked hard on the game for years, and those efforts appear to be paying off. Kudos to them.

But we all know that Star Trek is better than Star Wars, right? Right? Let's put that to the test this week as we see what people think of Cryptic Studios/Perfect World's Star Trek Online!

It's hosted by one of the terrible companies, that should tell you all you need.
Tried it myself, got mission bugged unable to finish it, searched for solution on official forums found that the issue is actually 3(!) damn years old and after that i left.
If it takes them 3 years to fix a critical bug what can you possibly expect from them?
You got it, nothing.

never spent a cent since it transitioned to F2P and wont ever intend to ever..... its an awesome game if u just get past the trolling griefers giving new players shit all day but once u find yourself a nice fleet what u can accomplish even with basic ships and weapons is way beyond what you can do in other MMOs....

I don't love it or hate it.

It isn't great, it isn't awful. I got bored after a week, but considering most MMOs make me uninstall after an hour that is above par.

One of the best games EVER!. STO is awesome. it's not pay to win if you can survive. I have been playing for years. The STO community & players are awesome & friendly & if you get in a large active fleet sky's the limit on what you cam accomplish & what they give away to fellow fleet mates. I have been playing this for 3 years & I keep coming back. Damn trolls ruin a good thing, go back to playing WOW & mobas.

I would consider this more of a kids version or Kindergarten version. So many limitations as far as what the game could have become as far as graphic, physics. combat AI, diversity of missions. Don't even get me started on the AI... (especially on planet side) horrible to no end. I have seen some 10-20 year old games with better AI. Overlooking the pay to win mentality, I just couldn't get myself play that game again despite that I have tried twice (once in beta). If they are still in business and still making good profit, then they are doing something right... or is just because it is Star Trek? Who knows.
