As Bungie Delays Marathon’s Release Following Alpha Feedback, We Wonder If Going F2P Might Help
Of course, that can remain an option even after launch.
It would seem that Bungie’s in-the-works shooter, Marathon, needs some extra love, according to player feedback from the Alpha test. As a result, the developer announced they would be delaying the game’s release indefinitely.
According to the announcement on Bungie’s site, the team will be spending the next few months creating the experience players are looking for. This means more testing, which will include those who participated in the Alpha test, as they roll out the changes.
For those wondering what that includes, the post mentions making AI encounters more challenging and combat more intense. The devs also plan on improving the game’s universe by improving the visuals, adding more narratives and environmental storytelling, and introducing a darker tone. Other plans include improving the solo and duo experience as well as introducing proximity chat.
The post goes on to state that Bungie will inform players of their progress in the Fall, as well as when they can expect a new release date. What will be interesting to see is whether or not these changes are accompanied by a shift to F2P. While not necessary for every game, F2P can help keep up the player population, which is important in competitive games.
