Fractured Online Early Access Kicks Off Today, But The Early Reviews On Steam Are Rough
It's still early and the early access isn't the complete game, but they are charging you for the game so they open up that avenue of criticism.
Having started on Kickstarter back in 2018, it's been a long, slow road for Fractured Online to get to today. But have all the bumps and bruises been worth it as Fractured Online, the sandbox MMORPG, opens the doors for early access today on Steam?
If the early Steam reviews are accurate (although there's only about 17 of them at this exact moment), then the answer is probably not...at least not yet.
Having picked up gamigo as a publisher, many were concerned about what type of sway the company would have on the small team of developers at Dynamight Studios...and what monetization changes Fractured would undergo under the leadership of a company known for some terrible monetization at times.
In our recent interview, the team was rather positive about the partnership, even if players weren't all that enthusiastic.
Today as early access begins though, early reviews tell a pretty consistent tale of an MMORPG that just isn't ready. Granted it is early access and the full game isn't available yet (for instance you can only access two races), but the team does have a price tag to enter, so they open themselves up to some hard critique when you ask for money at this point, regardless of any "beta" or "early access" labels.
Most reviews boil down to the same thoughts: the game isn't done, it's a bit janky, and an overall lack of polish is evident. On the positive side, some reviews do point out that the "old school" nature of the game does have a certain appeal, even if it just doesn't feel complete yet.
If you want to check out Fractured Online's early access, you can jump over to Steam and get started but you will have to pony up anywhere from $25.99 to $129.99 depending on your bundle of choice.
You can also check out a livestreamed AMA event with the devs on gamigo's Twitch channel on September 23rd at 11 AM EST.
