Lost Ark Offers A Behind The Scenes Look At The Valkyrie Class Before She Arrives
She’s not just the lady Paladin.
Players of Lost Ark have been waiting on the upcoming Valkyrie class for a while – if for no other reason than they’ve been wanting a female version of the Paladin. Now, she’s almost here. In fact, she’ll drop in the F2P ARPG in less than a week on August 20.
Before that, the devs want players to know more about the class. Because, at it turns out, she’s not just “girl pally”. She’s similar to the Paladin class and does fill that same “holy warrior” archetype. But she’s got her own thing going on. For one thing, her support system works differently, using two skills to offer buffs or aid in recovery. DPS-wise, the Valkyrie uses explosive bursts rather than back-attack-based damage. Both methods use the same resource but behave differently.
The post also addresses her visual design, which to me lands somewhere between a bride, a nun, and an angel. The latter might be due to the halo. Visually, she’s intended to give off a feeling of purity, with white garments and gold accents. Her weapons have the same aesthetic as well.
Speaking of the weapons, she can dual-wield swords. That’s one way she’s intended to be “more aggressive” than her male counterpart. The class also makes use of a shield, spear, and banner via different skills.
Her skills are made up of three categories, each with its own focus. One set of skills focuses on her dual-wielding. Another makes use of shields to protect allies. And the third revolves around swordsmanship as a whole. A detailed rundown of these skill sets can be found in the post on the Lost Ark site.
