Netmarble Scoops Up Mech-Fighting MMO RF Online
Venerable free-to-play mech-fighting game RF Online is under new management. The Korea IT Times is reporting that Netmarble has signed a contract to acquire the IP from its previous owner CCR, effective today. A mobile version of the game will also be developed by Netmarble N2.
The Google Translate version of the Korea IT Times article quoted Netmarble's CEO, Kwon Young-sik, as saying, "We are expecting to be able to provide new and more unique games to users by combining RF Online's IP, which has been loved by domestic and foreign fans for a long time, with its mobile game development and service capabilities."
RF Online launched in Korea in 2004 and has been developed by for its entire lifetime by CCR, which has relied on a series of publishing partners, such as PlayPark and 4Game, to bring it to many parts of the world. It just had a major update earlier this year, Evolution, which changed how servers evolved, slowing the pace until more players were at max level.
