Nightmare Mode Will Make It To Wayfinder This Year, But It's Looking More Likely That The Xbox Launch Will Be Next Year
Mods are for sure delayed until next year.
Airship Syndicate is still hard at work adding new features and improvements to the once-an-MMO-now-not-quite-so-much Wayfinder. The Echoes update shifting things to a more solo/co-op adventure title has been generally well-received since its launch on PC and subsequent release on PlayStation 5.
One key launch, the launch on Xbox consoles, has been stuck in limbo for a while now. It's been advertised for a few months as "coming by the end of the year," but a new post from the team causes me to be doubtful of that window.
"We realize it has taken longer than anticipated to get the Xbox version of the game out and we appreciate your patience! Our goal is for the game, along with the Critical Role Supporter Pack, to be available by end of the year. We’re excited to welcome Wayfinders on the Xbox Series X|S, who will be playing with Wayfinders across the other platforms and when we have a release date, we’ll share it," reads the post.
I would think, given that November is almost over, that if the team had a December date for the Xbox launch, they would have shared it instead of saying the above. Just a personal guess, but I think we're looking at 2025 at this point. On the topic of mods, we're 100% looking at next year now as the team says, "mods won’t be coming before the end of the year." Citing their other, more important focus points, like the Xbox launch.
So what will Wayfinders actually be getting in December?
On that front, a new Nightmare difficulty mode will be added for those looking to take on more challenging content. You'll only be able to take on Nightmare mode via a new save file, but once you unlock the rewards, those will be unlocked via all save files. Rewards include enhanced drops, including empowered versions of all existing artifacts and three new artifacts exclusive to Nightmare difficulty.
Yes, that means you're getting save slots, too.
Finally, the December update will see the inclusion of more bug fixes, new artifacts, and some collectibles from previous holiday events being added back into the game.
