"To avoid this bug simply don't use the in-game chat while in the hero gallery until it's fixed."

Overwatch 2 Chat Bug

The Overwatch 2 storm of consistent player issues and Blizzard's push to try and solve them continues into another terrible predicament: Players are buying premium hero skins on accident due to an in-game chat bug. Supposedly, the game keystrokes are still registered by other game menus while chatting with other players, putting many two spacebars away from unexpectedly buying a skin from the in-game store.

Reddit user Dracyoshi has warned players from actively using the in-game chat while in the hero gallery until the bug is gone. In their case, they were chatting with some friends while browsing the hero gallery when the game "unexpectedly began unlocking Junker Queen's Plutonium skin."

They barely had time to react to the purchase, stating it only took "two presses of the spacebar" while chatting, which they remark can "happen in a split second when you're pressing it dozens of times per sentence." They note the skin was worth "300 legacy credits," the in-game currency for Overwatch 2, and mentioned "Blizzard won't issue refunds for in-game currency" despite their situation.

Dracyoshi posted a screenshot of their support ticket sent to Blizzard with them saying they won't refund them because "unlocks are meant to be final." The dev advised posting on the forums for feedback (which Dracyoshi did beforehand, by the way) and closed the case.

Kittenbaby, another user on the OW2 forums, came across the same situation alongside Raindrac a couple of days ago. Surveying the comments on Reddit shows that user BrokenNock has a friend who was a victim as well, accidentally purchasing "Kiriko's legendary for 1900 credits while trying to chat."

The issue is rather grave, even with everything else Blizzard faces for Overwatch 2, and their response to it is jarring. The best anyone can do now is spread the word so that no one loses money.
