Riders of Icarus P2E

If you weren't a fan of Riders of Icarus before, you might never touch it at this point due to developer Valofe's decision to make the MMO play-to-earn. The news came from the game's official forum by an administrator and even had a teaser video on YouTube (below), in which fans are having a field day within its comments section.

"Hell no to P2E, I'm never coming back to this game again" came from a fan on YouTube, as another claims they "smell some rug pullin' otw." Like myself, another commenter believed the teaser video was "uninformative" of how the business model would work. Blaring trumpets and animated tokens of character models didn't really sell the experience well, and it should've tried to because of the notorious status of blockchain technology in the game industry.

Players are skeptical of this announcement even if Valofe claims Riders of Icarus will be the "same game [players] know and love." The saving grace is that they will be introducing new weapons, quests, dungeon challenges, and more. However, moving to a crypto model before these changes go live shows a bit about their priority here.

Commenter Aeden on YouTube shined some light on the MMO's misguided foray into crypto land, stating that "Steam has banned crypto and NFT games" in the past, which may lead to Riders of Icarus being "removed from the platform" if they violate the rules. Getting the boot from Steam is definitely not a good look if it happens.

What's your take on Riders of Icarus becoming P2E? Let's talk about it in the comments.
