Star Trek Online Updates Ship Explosions So Your Ship Can Die More Impressively
If you gotta go, go fabulously and make the biggest mess possible in the process.
It’s great to see that the Star Trek Online team is still hard at work on the important things…namely constantly working to create shinier pew-pews and bigger and better booms. Today, the dev team dropped a teaser of improvements coming to the FX of ship destruction coming to the game starting later this week. (I say “starting” because, as always, the update will drop for consoles later than PC.)
As the headline indicates, the STO team would like you to “die gloriously!” (Pretty sure that was written by a Klingon.) Okay, not you. No one actually wants you to die, but there’s always a chance your ship may get smoked, and, if it does, shouldn’t it go out in the best big fiery blaze of glory it can? With that in mind, Ship and FX artist Ian Richards decided to rebuild the effects tied to ship damage – from the moment other ships start firing on it to the minute it explodes.
Of course, there’s a video highlighting the new visuals…a bit of before and after...for you to enjoy.
