Rogue

With the release of Marvel Rivals Season 5.5, Rogue has arrived on the Vanguard roster as the latest hero to join the mix. However, as far as Vanguard characters go, she has one of the more complex ability kits to learn, meaning cycling your cooldowns and knowing your combos will be key to finding value. This includes the possibility of stunning enemies out of their cooldowns, reducing their Ultimate Charge, and even stealing some of their abilities to use for yourself and your allies. If you’re looking to get started in learning Rogue in Marvel Rivals, this guide has all of the information you’ll need to know about her abilities, Team-Ups, and potential counters to help you make the most out of her playstyle.

All Rogue Abilities & Team-Ups in Marvel Rivals

Rogue (1)

Power Surge Punch - Primary Fire

Punch forward with both fists. The first two strikes deal 35 damage, while the third strike deals 45 damage.

Defensive Stance - Secondary Fire

Absorb nearby projectiles and reduce incoming damage; absorbed damage powers up your next Southern Brawl.

Southern Brawl

While in Defensive Stance, dash forward and slam enemies in front, dealing area damage.

Chrono Kick Combo - E

Dash forward and launch the enemy, entering flight; activate again to Knock Down nearby enemies. Your next two Power Surge Punch attacks become ranged, piercing enemies and granting Bonus Health.

Fatal Attraction – SHIFT

Dash forward. Press again to unleash a burst of Chronovium Power, dealing continuous damage to nearby foes; after a delay, the energy retracts, pulling all enemies towards Rogue.

Ability Absorption – F

Dash forward to knock down your target and absorb their energy; after absorbing, replace Ability Absorption with one of their abilities or refresh Fatal Attraction. Also absorb Health and stats based on their role

Heartbreaker – Ultimate Ability

Continuously absorb Ultimate Ability Energy from nearby enemies and steal stats based on their role

Explosive Entanglement – Gambit, Magneto, & Rogue Team-Up

Gambit shares kinetic energy with Magneto and Rogue. When Magneto activates this ability, Iron Volley is replaced with Ace Greatsword, which detonates upon striking enemies. The explosion leaves residual kinetic energy within the target, inflicting secondary damage after a brief delay. When Rogue activates the ability, each of her attacks causes a kinetic explosion that damages nearby enemies and heals nearby allies.

Every Ability Rogue Can Steal in Marvel Rivals

Rogue Abilities in Marvel Rivals

Stealing abilities is a key part of Rogue’s kit, and choosing the right ability to steal at the right time can completely turn a team fight. In addition to abilities, she also steals a passive ability based on the enemy’s Role – such as extra damage boost for DPS targets. For targets who do not have a power to be stolen, she will simply gain the HP and bonus, so always looking for a target who can provide all three will be more beneficial.

Best Rogue Team Comp / Synergy Picks in Marvel Rivals

Best Rogue team comp & synergy picks in Marvel Rivals

Rogue is a very brawl-oriented Vanguard, and her shield isn’t really a ‘shield’ in the same way that other characters' shields are, as it only reduces, not blocks incoming damage. This means she can be a little hit or miss in some team comps. Specifically, Rogue will tend to struggle more in a solo-tanking situation, particularly against an enemy line-up with two Vanguards, as well as going up against a team that doesn’t have many abilities to steal. Here are some of the best picks to play alongside Rogue to strengthen your overall team comp.

  • Magneto, or Doctor Strange: Magneto works perfectly with Rogue as a frontliner Tank, especially as both of them benefit from the Team-Up with Gambit. Magneto can provide protection to his team with his shield/bubbles, while Rogue can go to work in aggressive brawls. Alternatively, Doctor Strange can do the same kind of job, but a Magneto will always be preferable due to Team-Ups.
  • Emma Frost: Emma has a very unique hybrid poke/brawl playstyle, which makes her a great choice to play alongside Rogue. They can both pivot into very brawly teamfights when needed, but Emma also has good mid-range potential and a deployable shield to help block important bouts of damage. Lastly, they also both have stun capabilities with Rogue’s steal and Emma’s chokeslam, so having them both on the team equals double the CC and disruption that the enemy will be forced to deal with.
  • Gambit: Gambit is pretty much a no-brainer pick whenever you see Rogue. Not only is he one of the strongest Strategists in the game, but he also provides much value with his Team-Up. Once Gambit pops his Ultimate, Rogue’s Team-Up AOE healing/damage punches pretty much delete any enemy she dives onto. He does a great job at helping control the tempo and flow of big team fights, which enables Rogue to thrive.
  • Invisible Woman: Invisible Woman is pretty much top of the Strategist META right alongside Gambit, due to the immense value her kit brings to pretty much any team comp. Her shield can be placed around Rogue during tough moments in brawls, enabling her to finish a pick or back off and find safety. Her vortex and push/pull can also work with Rogue to draw enemies in for her deadly combo or ability steal, too, which comes in handy. And when she pops her Ultimate, Rogue can just go crazy on aggression and really get in the face of the enemy.
  • Daredevil: Daredevil is the strongest dive Duelist in Season 5.5, making him a brilliant choice to pair with Rogue. When Rogue is brawling enemies on the frontline, Daredevil can approach from the flank and use his lock-on to burst damage them down, securing final picks. Also, both his and Rogue’s Ult are an AOE that has chip effects/damage, so rotating them every other teamfight will place pressure on the enemy.
  • Moon Knight, Phoenix, or Squirrel Girl: These three Duelists all excel at placing pressure on clumped-up/tightly grouped enemy teams. Rogue is able to pull enemies in through her SHIFT, as well as hard CC them for a few seconds with her ability steal. Moon Knight deals lots of damage and can hugely benefit from this with his primary fire and ankh. Phoenix has great damage and even bonus stuns that can be applied for further CC obstacles, and Squirrel Girl....well, it’s Squirrel Girl, you can get value from her just by lobbing your primary fire in the general direction of grouped enemies. Any of these picks is a solid choice for applying that extra pressure, which opens up room for Rogue to work with.
  • Luna Snow: In Season 5.5, Luna Snow gained some pretty darn good changes that increased her survivability, helping her stay alive during brutal teamfights. She has a great hitscan-based ranged heal, which makes it easy to heal Rogue from afar as she dips in and out of the frontline in her attacks, and alongside any other strong healer, Rogue will be able to rest assured that some big heal numbers will be heading her way as long as she remains in sight during brawls.

Best Rogue Counters in Marvel Rivals

Best Rogue counters in Marvel Rivals

In Marvel Rivals, Rogue is quite easily countered. There are a few key picks that are rather oppressive for her to play into, as well as the possibility of simply choosing heroes who offer no powers for her to grab from, which ‘counters’ her in the sense that she suddenly has much less value for her team on the battlefield. Ranged heroes/snipers can also be a struggle for Rogue as she relies on close-quarters combat. Some flying heroes can be useful for the same reason – they are out of range for her to easily fight or apply pressure towards.

  • The Thing: The Thing pretty much shreds Rogue at close-combat brawls, despite the two of them being brawl tanks. He just has so much power at melee that Rogue will almost always be forced to back off, reposition, or burn her abilities trying to sustain.
  • Peni Parker: Peni’s mines can be an absolute nuisance for Rogue to deal with, as well as Peni’s web stun. Unless you have help from your team to shred the mines ASAP, then getting in and out to dive/brawl is a nightmare. Throw a Rocket into the mix for double nest/respawn mines, and it will be even more overwhelming to try and make Rogue work.
  • Iron Man, Human Torch, & Ultron: Rogue can struggle with flying heroes, as they control their kits and apply damage/healing from afar. Furthermore, unlike ranged grounded heroes, she can’t make an aggressive push to reach them. She simply has a few seconds of her flight mode to try and reach them, and that’s it. The only one that is a risk to play into Rogue is Storm – Storm is hit or miss in the meta compared to other flying heroes, and if Rogue steals her power, she will gain a passive damage boost and the ability to damage boost herself from Storm’s power, resulting in double damage boost. Throw the likes of a Mantis damage boost or Luna/Gambit Ultimate onto Rogue, and she can two-tap half of the roster.
  • Black Widow, Hela, & Hawkeye: Much like flying heroes, Rogue struggles against snipers as they tend to maintain their distance and secure picks from afar. Specifically, Hawkeye and Black Widow also offer no ability for Rogue to steal, so it’s a lose-lose matchup, really. Unless you can really get the jump on the snipers or they tend to play out of position (which only tends to happen at low Ranks), they can feel like an uphill battle for Rogue to face.
  • Star-Lord: Star-Lord not only offers no power for Rogue to steal, but he also has his ‘blinks’ to help dodge her CC stun completely. He can pretty much use his boosters, blinks, and guns to harass her, distract her from other targets, and escape her most brutal ability.
  • Winter Soldier: There’s pretty much no hero that Bucky is really terrible against, thanks to his ability to slow and displace targets. Rogue thrives on cycling her abilities carefully and diving in and out of the frontline to brawl. Bucky can catch Rogue when she’s used her abilities and about to flee, hooking her back for his team to focus on for an easy pick.
