Darwin Project To Shut Down, Well, Kind Of...Select Server Locations Get The Axe

Back in May we let you know about the end of development for Darwin Project, the Twitch integrated battle royale from the team at Scavengers Studio. At that time, development was stopped due to the game being unsustainable and the servers were going to be kept on through the end of the year on PC and PS4. That looked like the end of the title...but today the team has announced that Darwin Project will live on...but only in certain server locations.

Fours server regions will be closed down on January 5th, 2021, with only 2 servers, EU (Frankfurt) and US East (N. Virginia), remaining open. The decision came down, predictably, to the number of players that continued to enjoy the game on those servers after the May announcement. The good news here, if you aren't near those servers, is that the game will not be IP blocked so you are still welcome to play the game on those two servers, but, also predictably, your performance may suffer due to server proximity.

Checking out the above post though, you'll want to make special note of the FAQ section of the announcement. The team at Scavengers Studio reiterates many times that development and bug fixes are no longer happening. Tournaments have also died a silent death. Even the Discord, while still remaining open for players to use, will no longer be managed by team members as a portal to communicate to the player base. There's also a gentle reminder that toxic behavior in game is discouraged...but if you read between the lines you can probably infer that not much will be done about it report-wise. The same seems to be the case on exploiting bugs as Scavengers Studio simply reminds users that this would be cheating.

If you enjoy the game, this may all be good news for you...even if you're now playing in the Wild West version of a battle royale where there basically is no form of retribution from above for poor game conduct, so be careful out there as the Scavengers team moves to new, unannounced projects!
