After three years of development, DEADROP is dead. The NFT-supported F2P shooter in development at Midnight Society won't see its 2024/2025 planned release according to a tweet from the team. Midnight Society is hoping that some of their 55 staff members will be picked up by other studios.

Being Co-Founded by Dr Disrespect (Guy Beahm), who the company later parted ways with after Beahm disclosed having conversations that "leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate" with a minor, Midnight Society's staff was made up of Call of Duty veterans and team members from other popular shooter games.

"Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers," reads the post. The closure comes just a little over 4 months after the company confirmed "substantial" layoffs.

DEADROP had faced a bit of an uphill battle from the start being an extraction shooter that was linked to NFT purchases, something many gamers have scoffed at even during the high-popularity phase of NFTs/blockchain. Separating from Beahm, who was part of the funding for the project, likely didn't help matters any from a checkbook standpoint.

Ironically, the studio's closure comes at the same time Dr Disrespect has had his previously disabled YouTube monetization reenabled.

The closure notice comes with no news on if refunds of any type will be offered to founders. We'll update this piece if we see official word on that front, but you probably shouldn't hold your breath.
