Final Fantasy XIV Backstage Investigators Takes A Look At How Items Are Designed
Lead Item Designer Yosuke Hayashi even offers a peek at a new outfit.
If you’ve wondered what goes into creating gear, fashion accessories, and the like for Final Fantasy XIV, then the latest Backstage Investigators blog post is for you. Even if you haven’t wondered that, you may have pondered why it takes as long as it does to implement things – or why certain things were implemented the way they were in the first place. (I’m looking at you, parasols.) Actually, by now, I think most people understand why parasols work the way they do – they’re tied to the same system as mounts, but Hayashi goes into that and discusses the changes they’ve made to make them more flexible.
The post also details what method the team uses when creating new items. An example of Eden Equipment is given, in which they detail specific traits for this particular weapon – such as a “feathery” motif. It also details the workflow used to create these weapons. If you’ve ever wondered, naming the weapon is the second to last task, coming before translation.
Near the end of the post, Hayashi did offer a look at one new item coming to the game. As Tataru’s Grand Endeavor is about to take us back to Hingashi, they’ve decided to make a new Eastern-style outfit. You can see it below.
