XIV Sales Resuming

Alright, gang. We have (mostly) good news on the Final Fantasy XIV technical front. It seems things are smoothing out, as a recent letter from Yoshi-P revealed that the team is ready to bring back a few of the functions we’ve been waiting on. Some of it will take longer than others – even going much later into the year, but we do have a few things that are going to happen very soon.

In just a bit over a week, players can expect three things to happen. First, sales will resume on January 25. Although, there is a warning that should servers become too overloaded sales could be suspended again. Hopefully, however, this next thing will help prevent that. Get ready Oceania players. Your data center will arrive the same day sales resume. Not only that, it will contain more worlds than initially planned – five, rather than three. The other good news here is that in order to encourage players to transfer to these worlds, they will be waiving the world transfer fee.

Speaking of transfers… The world transfer service will resume following the return of sales and the Oceania data center launch, on January 26. And yes, it will be available to all players on all data centers, meaning everyone can change homeworlds, barring moving to certain worlds that are considered too congested.

If you’ve been waiting on the Data Center travel system. You are going to have to wait until sometime after 6.1 drops. Once live, the system will have limitations. Cross-region travel will not be available, though it is technically possible. Rather, it will be limited to allowing players to visit worlds in logical data centers on the same physical data center as them.

Finally, on the topic of data centers. There’s been news of expansion in the different regions. Japan can expect new additions around July. North America should be getting its first set in August, with more on the way in 2023. And Europe can also expect some in July with more coming in 2023.
