Hi-Rez Details How Crossplay Has Helped Their Games
If you've ever doubted that crossplay is a good thing for online games, Hi-Rez has some news for you. According to a tweet posted by Hi-Rez President Stew Chisam, crossplay between Xbox and Switch has resulted in some significant improvements for Paladins players trying to match in multiplayer. Chisam even dropped some numbers.
In the tweet, he states that wait time was reduced by 30% while the level spread had decreased by 40%. But, that wasn't all. More impressively, what the company considers "bad" matches had been reduced by 80%. That's a lot.
Xplay improves match quality in multiplayer games. When we added crossplay between Paladins Xbox and Switch:
>> Wait time reduced 30%
>> Level spread between players down 40%
>> 40% reduction in ELO std deviation per match
>> 80% reduction in "Bad" matches (by our internal defn)— HiRezStew (@schisam) February 8, 2019
Since he was dropping details on crossplay, some fans popped in to ask him about Switch getting voice chat. The answer? It's in the works. Chisam added they're working on it with Vivox -- although he provided the wrong Twitter handle. It's @vivox_inc, not @vivox (which is a suspended account.)
