Earlier this year, retro 2-D MMORPG Mirage Online conducted its first open beta. It will shock all of you to learn that the first open beta is being followed by … a second beta! This one is closed however, and since the game isn’t made by Valve, there’s even a chance they’ll manage to get to #3 someday.
That’s getting a little ahead of ourselves, though. The second open beta is scheduled to start in mid-May and will address the feedback gathered from players during the previous test. Accordingly, there’s a long list of items labeled as “completed or nearing completion,” such as reconfigurable keyboard controls, snow and fog weather effects, the ability to choose a respawn location, and a “Hardcore” game mode, where death reverts your character to level one.
In addition, “the engine was completely revamped in some areas to provide a better browser, mobile and Steam experience,” which includes a 7,000%(!) better client/server performance, and security was beefed up to help prevent exploits. You can read the complete patch notes and sign up for the beta on the Mirage Online Classic site.
Thank you for the article. Looking forward to playing with anyone looking for a retro mmo fix!
