UPDATE 8/31: The Firefall website is back online and the game is playable again, though people are reporting that gameplay features are limited and the game still isn't listed on Steam. So it appears to be still playable, but barely. The real end is probably coming soon.

Original story: The last time we heard anything about Firefall, it wasn't good news. Now, it seems like the ultimate bad news has come to pass, as the once-promising MMOFPS appears to have been shut down for good.

The Firefall website can't be reached, and players are reporting that they can't log in to the servers. The news doesn't come as a great shock, considering the troubles the game has seen over the past several months, with layoffs, missing payroll in December, the dreaded "strategic reorganization," and a sale to a cashmere company, all of which were met by silence or reassurances from higher-ups that everything was fine. Maybe Mark Kern can buy it up really cheaply now.

If this is the end for Firefall, what are your thoughts?

Firefall works fine, site is up and game is online. Players are still enjoying it. I wonder why MMOBomb hates this game so much to feel the need to spread false news.

Mark Kern has given up on firefall but is working on a spiritual successor that is closer to firefalls's original vision before executive meddling fucked it up.

It was an awesome game during the beta tests, when it only had a single zone, no character levels, but upgrades and much much higher event density. But I was utterly disappointed in the final product, progression and crafting mechanics dumbed down, and they just stretched the same ammount of content to the new zones, but it lowered the content density. The game felt empty after the changes, players left, which also added to it, it became impossible to do the high difficulty encounter events, like melding tornado or invaders. The special missions, raids did not really fit the game style either. This game became the grave of almost infinite potential, which was utterly wasted through the development process.

just wait for ember... but that game isn't going to be free to play... but hopefully it wont be overly priced at beta.

The "former team" has gone the way of the four winds.

It had promise, but was mismanaged into hell and then some.

Let it die already.

Could be, unless some sh!t company buys it up to try and leech some more$ from the corpse of this poor game.
But personally i think the former team should try their hand at making something else, maybe firefall2?
Or... even joining up with kern to do his new firefall hehe.
