One of the best things about Funcom's Secret World has always been the story line. Combat, mechanics, and other things may have been (and may still be) kinda iffy, but the story... Well... that's a whole other story. In fact, the mythology of The Secret World/Secret World Legends is so well done that it allows for a lot of side content -- such as additional games that cover just one bit of what's happening in the game's universe. So, when I saw the announcement that a Secret World television series is officially in the works, it wasn't too surprising.

What was surprising was some to the names attached to it -- like Johnny Depp. The series -- which from the announcement I'm going to assume is in early, EARLY stages, so we won't know any major details for a while -- is being produced by Depp's Infinitum Nihil and Gudrun Giddings of G4C Innovation. Giddings optioned the media rights to the game back in 2012.

The series will follow a team of undercover agents and the ongoing war between the game's three playable factions. Like the game, the storyline will span the globe and even other dimensions. I'd wager there's a bit of time travel too. It will explore both the myths and legends of old as well as the conspiracy theories of today.

No dates, channel associations, or other fine details have been revealed about the show. So, we'll all just have to wait it out. Needless to say, it'll be interesting to see how well the game actually translates to the viewing medium. We all know how previous attempts to turn games into movies and TV shows have gone before.
