Vicarious Visions Fully Absorbed By Blizzard, Will Get A New Name
Name change for Overwatch's Cole Cassidy, formerly Jesse McCree, also live.
Note: Activision Blizzard is still under investigation by the state of California for serious harassment charges.
Vicarious Visions is no more. The developer behind Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 that also worked on the recent Diablo 2: Resurrected for Blizzard has now been fully absorbed by Blizzard and will no longer carry on with its previous name.
The merger was announced in January but word of the name drop was only announced to surprised employees on Wednesday, in what one described as a "light and quick" meeting. The studio will receive a new name, which Polygon assumes will simply be something like "Blizzard Albany." The focus of the studio will be to shift to "long-term support" of Blizzard's titles.
In other Blizzard-related name-change news, the cowboy hero from Overwatch has officially received his name change in-game. "Jesse McCree" is now "Cole Cassidy" in all text and visual effects, a change that was announced late last week and went into effect on Tuesday.
