A Year After Announcing They Were Rebuilding Robocraft 2, Freejam Shuts Down
The company cites market conditions and server costs as factors.
Robocraft 2 fans are on the receiving end of bad news today. The game’s developer, Freejam, informed players via Discord that the studio has shut down. According to the statement (shared on Games Industry) “current market conditions and the server costs required to keep a game like RC2 running” made development unsustainable. As a result, Robocraft 2, its predecessor, and Cardlife are all being sunset. The news comes a year after the developer announced plans to rebuild the game.
The statement goes on to say that the studio “has been like a family” and thanks the fans for their “feedback and thoughts” that “have always driven [them] forward”. Unfortunately, studio closures and game shuttering are frequent occurrences. It’s likely the fans saw this on the horizon despite hoping otherwise. Hopefully, everyone who lost their jobs during this will find a new one soon.
