Blizzard Announces The Return Of The Overwatch Champions Series In 2025
The new season starts in January.
If you enjoyed the last Overwatch Champions Series, then you’ll be happy to know that Blizzard is continuing with it. Over the weekend, the developer announced plans to kick off the 2025 OWCS in January and detailed the format that will run until next November when the World Finals will take place.
More than just bringing the Overwatch 2 competitive event back, Blizzard is streamlining things to make them easier for fans of the hero-shooter competition to follow. The post lists three things they’ve done to achieve this: broadcasting every regular season match, making things more consistent across regions, and auto-qualifying most teams for the next stage. Two slots will be filled via promotion and relegation, something being introduced in the 2025 OWCS.
The introduction of promotion and regulation to the OWCS will have the lowest-performing teams defending their spots against new talent. It will serve as an official qualifier for promotion in the NA/EMEA, FACEIT Leagues.
