Defiance Rejoins The Land Of Live Games Today Thanks To Fawkes Games
I may not have been a massive player in the past, but yes, I'll be checking it out again.
The hellbugs return today! If you've been following the totally unexpected return of F2P shooter MMO Defiance, you can finally hop in today. Fawkes Games has licensed the IP from gamigo and brought back the game in what I still think is one of the weirdest revivals we've seen in a long time.
Today's release makes the original 2013 version of the game available directly from the game's site. Depending on how things pan out, Fawkes games is open to exploring the possibility of a return to consoles and a possible release on other platforms like Steam. They haven't even ruled out possible future development. However, the team has made things very clear in their FAQ that all of these possibilities would only come about if the game does well enough to warrant the updates. I don't know if I'd hold my breath there.
I am sure there are plenty of crazy Defiance fans that will spend quite a bit of time starting over (yes, you have to start over) and maybe even spend some cash. I'm happy for them. I'll be checking out the game, too. However, I just have to think that if that audience was big enough to support new updates, then the game would never have shut down.
That said, let's just enjoy the initial return today. Roll up a new character to explore an Earth that is a tad apocalyptic (it's been terraformed to hell and back) and one where multiple alien races now live amongst humans. San Francisco needs some law enforcement reintroduced, and that's where you come in.
Time to suit up, kill some hellbugs, and enjoy things while they last if this is a game you've been nostalgic about since its closure.
