Explore A Spooky Town And Face New Foes In DDO's Sinister Secret Of Saltmarsh Expansion
Dungeons & Dragons Online is turning 50 today! No, that's not how old the game is, it's the number of today's update/expansion, which introduces the classic D&D adventure, the Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh. Adventurers will have to contend with a host of new enemies, including bullywugs, giant crocodiles, water weirds, and nightmares, as they investigate a sleepy seacoast town and the alchemist's mansion that looms over the town from the cliffs overhead.
In addition to the main story, there are five bonus side quest dungeons scattered around Saltmarsh, based on the lore of the area from the original D&D modules and the 5th Edition Ghosts of Saltmarsh book. There's also a haunted house, underground Lizardfolk lair, ruined wizards tower, and huge Sahuagin fortress to explore.
As far as other mechanics go, the update also brings the eighth installment of DDO's Monster Manual system, rewarding players for killing specific monsters, and a streamline of thh Scroll/Seals/Shards crafting system. New loot includes 15 new filigree sets, new heroic and epic augments, weapons, and equipment gear sets, and -- most important of all -- all new music!
The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh comes in three editions, Standard, Collector's, and Ultimate, which sell for $19.99/$59.99/$99.99, respectively. VIPs receive 10% off any package, as well as receiving an Elixir of Discovery if they log into the game before September 5. You can also purchase the expansion and some of its additional content with Store Points, details of which can be found in the FAQ on the DDO site.
