Star Trek Online Canon Ships

Star Trek Online launched at just about the same time the new Star Trek movies came into being. In those movies, Leonard Nimoy's Spock travels back in time, thus erasing him from the "main" timeline -- and yet, Nimoy as Spock served as the narrator for STO's opening segments, creating a kind of "canon conundrum."

That's not new to Star Trek in general, which has had to contend with alternate universes and timelines pretty much since its inception, but it still must have been a little annoying to fans and creators of the MMORPG. Now, 12 years later, a few bits of Star Trek Online are finding their way into the official canon of Star Trek lore, which might serve to make up for those early inconsistencies.

The new season of Star Trek: Picard includes four ships that were created in Star Trek Online -- the Ross, Gagarin, Reliant, and Sutherland -- and their journey from video game to streaming video was documented by Cryptic Studios. "It's an overwhelming and exciting feeling, and the reason we got here is because of you," Cryptic said in the post announcing the news.

To commemorate the auspicious occasion, the Gagarin, Reliant, and Sutherland are 30% off in the ZEN Store, the Inquiry Class is 20% off in the Lobi Store, and the 10th anniversary bundle, which includes the Ross, is 35% off. The Picard 2399 uniform returns to the shop as well, and everything in Mudd's Market, except bundles, are 75% off. These deals are in effect until March 10.
