Guild Wars 2 Deep Dives Into Relic System Coming In Secrets Of The Obscure Expansion
Runes are losing their special bonus abilities, but fear not, they are going into the new Relics.
Today Guild Wars 2 is sharing details about the upcoming Relic system that will go live with the MMORPG's Secrets of the Obscure expansion this August. The system separates the stats from Runes from the bonus special ability. The stats are staying on the runes, while the bonus special abilities are getting moved to the brand new Relics, which will have their own equipable slot on the character sheet. Guild Wars 2 devs hope to provide more flexibility with the separation of the two.
Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure will launch with 40 core relics and 12 expansion relics. More core relics will be added over time. Characters of Level 60 or above will receive a Relic chest to get them started with the new system.
Legendary Runes will maintain their attribute-swapping flexibility, while the bonus special ability will move over to the new Relic system. Legendary Relics will be introduced sometime in 2024, allowing players to swap between various Relic abilities.
