EA has had a less than stellar track record when it comes to Free-to-Play games and their recent business decisions in general. The company has been slowly expanding their F2P offerings with mixed reception in each notable genre. They have some F2P shooters (Battlefield Play4Free and Heroes), a racing game (Need for Speed World), an MMORPG (SWTOR), an RTS (Command and Conquer Generals) and now they can add MOBA to the list as well.

A Twitter user by the name of superannuation uncovered the Dawngate website while also speculating that Waystone Games the company credited for Dawngate, is actually a rebranded portion of Visceral Games. Viseral Games are of course, the developers behind Dead Space who were said to be working on a MOBA last year. This could very well be that MOBA or EA is planning on releasing two MOBA-like games although that seems highly unlikely.

Details regarding Dawngate are practically nonexistent right now. The website mentions Dawngate being “built from the ground up to look and feel familiar while offering a whole new way to experience MOBA gameplay”. Ya gee, thanks I really appreciate you just describing what every other new MOBA wants to do.

The description goes on to say that Dawngate “empowers you to forge the champions you love for the roles you want in a competitive arena, shaped by ever-evolving, community driven content and story”. You really can’t extrapolate too much from that statement other than to assume some level of player customization (which what MOBA doesn’t have that) in addition to some evolving world which the community takes part in creating.

That’s all the info there is at the moment. The website also has a registration page for those wishing to sign up for the closed beta and a link to a forum page which at the time of writing this, doesn’t appear to be working.

  1. Wanna use your hero’s ultimate spell? Then buy this 15€ dlc. Oh, you want to buy some items too? Shop dlc 20€. Thanks for your purchase. Have a nice day.

  2. I want a moba game where I don’t have to play a pre-made champion/hero. I want it like WoW where I get to create my own character, and choose from a list of classes, and earn points after battles to buy cosmetics for my character ( helmets, capes, swords, etc ).

And also, I’m sorry, but GamingMaster, that is the dumbest thing I’ve EVER read on this site. “When will this genre die?” Sorry kid, League of Legends is the most played game in the world, making MOBAs the most popular e-sport as well. This genre isn’t going anywhere, learn to accept it.

  3. I’m actually wondering on how this will be.
Sure it’s EA but they can still make good games, if they don’t mess this up that is.

  4. Every time something is successful in the game industry, every developer and their uncle tries to pretty much copy it to make a quick buck. When will the game industry realise that doesn’t work?

  5. Another MOBA? I’m not a fan of MOBAs, and while I’m glad there is variety…it becomes a point where there is too many of the same thing.

Even though I don’t like MOBA games, I don’t think any genre deserves to be under EA. My disgust for EA is another story for another day…

    • It seems the MOBA genre hit the point where more and more shity MOBAs being released just like MMORPG genre is 😀 i find it funny. also i dont like mobas… rather i dont like the community of them.

  6. When people start eating more cake, then more cake shall be made. Wich is exactly what EA does as a company, make more to sell more. Power is still to the people as they choose wich cake they buy.

    • Aye! I try every MOBA (specially the F2Ps) even though it’s EA.

(Very proud to say that I’ve played every “real” moba beta except dota, and I wanna keep it that way.)

    • Nope, not gonna bother. Not because I wouldn’t mind trying it, but because I know no one I know will, and these kind of games are best played with friends.

  7. Exactly what we need in the gaming market, another MOBA and this time by our favoritest gaming company ever, EA. /sarcasm yeah right, go suck an egg EA.

        • No, I think we can all say that we hate EA because they are simply bad as a company. They ruin games, they shut down studios who make great games because they didn’t make enough millions of dollars to feed their heroin addictions.

I don’t mind MOBA’s, I play League, DOTA 2, and have tried several of the other ones. But, that’s not to say that many of them (or most) shamelessly copy off of the more popular ones. Hell, Gaslight Batman from Infinite Crisis is an example of this: His ultimate is literally a copy and pasted version of League’s Ezreal ultimate ability. It may have different damage ratios considering it’s from a different game, but the same shape of the ability, the fact that they’re both global, and how they both do less damage as it goes through more units… You can’t accidentally copy that.
