New World’s Forged In Aeternum Episode 68 Takes A Look At Game Balance
Particularly balance after Season 4’s release.
Before you wonder if we’re reposting the same New World developer video twice in one day. No, we are not. The one posted this morning was posted on Christmas Day and addressed Season 4’s release issues. This post is for the next installment, which focuses on balancing the MMORPG.
The video takes a look at what followed Season 4’s launch and any changes that might come from it. Over the ten minutes or so, it looks at PvP and PvE balance, artifacts, various weapons, and equip loads.
In the realm of PvP, the video suggests that the game’s best PvP balance to date was just before Season 3 dropped, but notes that following that, they’d intentionally broke it as a result of big changes implemented at the time. Since then, they’ve been making adjustments intended to improve balance again and players have found ways to work with what’s in place. The devs continue to work on the issue, but suggest that it’s less a weapon balance issue than “systemic problems”.
That said, the video does address three weapons: the bow, the fire staff, and the void gauntlet. It also spends time on artifacts, and, as we mentioned, the PvE balance is covered a bit as well. Although, less time is spent on it than PvP.
