SEGA of America and SEGA Europe announced that free-to-play multiplayer action RPG Phantasy Star Online 2 will be coming to North America and Europe in 2013.

“Phantasy Star Online was a revolutionary game when it was released, and we want to make sure that its successor in the series is every bit as ambitious,” said Chris Olson, Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA of America. “We look forward to introducing Phantasy Star Online 2’s unique, easy-to-access multiplayer action to the rest of the world next year!”

“The number one thing we want to provide players in Phantasy Star Online 2 is an adventure that changes every time they log in. Just as great table-top RPG experiences revolve around imaginative and unexpected encounters, we want players to consistently be surprised as they explore dungeons and undertake quests,” added Satoshi Sakai, Phantasy Star Online 2 Producer at SEGA of Japan.

Over ten years have passed since the release of the Dreamcast hit, Phantasy Star Online, and SEGA is poised to continue the Phantasy Star series’ multiplayer legacy on PCs worldwide with Phantasy Star Online 2.

In the Year 238, the New Era of Light, players will join a new band of Arks in the fight against mysterious D-Arkers, embarking on another epic adventure of infinite possibilities! For a first look at this new entry in the legendary Phantasy Star series, check out the official Phantasy Star Online 2 teaser site at www.pso2.com.

screw this game.. i even thought it was open world…

i guess my only chance is RaiderZ

    screw all the lazy devs.

I used wikipedia to pass the katakana log in captcha, just copy paste the symbols you need. Game is actually good just the annoying time based quests you need to beat in order to open new zones. Still no PVP and hope they add one since PSO 1 had it(not very fun with that game’s combat system). You can buy everything in the cash shop on the purple signed “?” terminals(first option, again first option and teh button on the lowest window that popped up) for meseta(in game currency) as long as someone registers one so you can with the exception of the room I think and character slots. Can cahnge between the 3 classes everytime so if you’re bored of running as a hunter then you acn start as a force or ranger. Game also has a guild system implemented but I haven’t found much of what’s the benefits on it.

Can’t wait to spend hours upon hours dancing with random strangers at the central hub.

  8. Payback on July 10, 2012

Thought it was on the PSP and PS3 only.

    • Antorphy on July 10, 2012

actually its gonna be on PSVita and PC only and not only that, its also gonna be like a cross-server platform kind of thing. Both platform will access the same server so players in PSVita can play together with PC players online. I saw that news awhile back.^_^

      • Fightmaster on July 11, 2012

Not only that, but its said to be coming out on Iphone and Android.

UGH …More obnoxiously huge swords. That’s just annoying as s#*t. Especially the one at 2:26.

And this might be a good game but the trailer nearly put me to sleep. The first 1/3 of it is just “concept art” and there wasn’t any action until 1/2 way through the video.

I’ve actually been looking forward to this game for a couple of years now, but I’m not sure I can get past those annoying weapons – it just looks so stupid and it’s totally distracting.

    • DeFiiNeZ on July 10, 2012

Obviously your not a PSO fan if you played the first PSO and the PSO for gamecube and even PSOU you would understand why people are so excited for this game. Dont bash it because you dont understand it.

      • Stacy on July 10, 2012

If you’d actually READ my comment, I said that it might be a good game but the TRAILER put me to sleep. I didn’t bash the game, only the video and the obnoxiously big weapons. I also said I’ve been looking forward to this game for years. Next time actually read someone’s comment if you think you need to respond to it.

        • Antorphy on July 10, 2012

you’re looking forward to this game and you don’t like big weapons…. wow, you’re really conflicting yourself and complicated but well that’s just your opinion. I find this game awesome and the big weapons are cool regardless of total shit you type of people always say about it. people these days are really picky now.

          • DeFiiNeZ on July 11, 2012

Not to mention shes on her period and like to over react to comments. XD

        • Fightmaster on July 11, 2012

There are some extremely large weapons, some get bigger that that by a bit. That is the standard hunter melee weapon they are the biggest, most other weapons excluding rangers shotguns are not so bad. I personally enjoy the large weapons. They didnt even get into the skills force users get.

          • Stacy on July 12, 2012

Overly large weapons are never a deal breaker for me, but the aesthetics of a game are very important. If the game-play is fun and the content is good I’ll definitely play it, despite the obnoxious weapons. However it has to be a very very fun game for me to play it and overlook those monstrosities. lol 😛 So I will have to wait and see after I try it out. 🙂

          • Fightmaster on July 12, 2012

Well its everything that was awesome about PSO and just made better as far as ive seen, nothing that was good or fun about PSO was taken away.

      • Stacy on July 11, 2012

hahah On my period? Oh you’re so original. Sexist people like you always say idiotic stuff like that when a woman has an opinion that differs from their’s. It’s easier for you to write us off that way as just being a slave to hormonal fluctuations instead of admitting that a woman can have strong opinions. Women are people too and are just as entitled to their opinion as males are. Please leave your sexism out of the conversation in the future, it just shows your ignorance.

        • DeFiiNeZ on July 12, 2012

Hahahaha Sexist?!?!?! lol if i was sexist i wouldnt hang out with chicks everyday and wouldnt have had past girlfriends. You just cant realize your the ignorant one. Haha you just cant seem to understand what a joke is huh? guessing you dont get out much. But whatever you want to believe go for it.

          • Stacy on July 12, 2012

Your argument for not being sexist is that you have had girlfriends and hang out with “chicks”. THAT is your argument on how you’re not sexist? Oh kid, that would be funny if it wasn’t so sad.

I’m done with this conversation and won’t be responding to your comments after this. I can only hope that perhaps later on in life you’ll “get it”, for your sake as well as for the females in your life.

          • DeFiiNeZ on July 12, 2012

Lol whats sad is how pale you are and how old you look and your still playing games. Haha now thats sad. Hahaha its so funny thinking how pale you are and how you will never find love. Have a nice lonely life.

If any of you actually played the previous versions you’ll be more excited that its free to play who cares about the cash shop, i had 2 stacks thats 99mill, that took me a couple months to get so wont really matter

  15. StyL3sX on July 9, 2012

First Look like good:) .. But will se when can play ..

  16. Kyte on July 9, 2012

I’m downloading that JP OB right now. I literally cannot wait to play this game. I hear a lot of English players reside in Ship 2, block 20-22, and that it’s often busy.

    • StyL3sX on July 9, 2012

What is JP ? can reply please?:)

    • Magicman on July 10, 2012

This isn’t in open beta anymore. The Japan launch was on July 4th so the ship numbers for the high English population may be different now.
      Thanks!
      -Magicman

      • Magicman on July 10, 2012

P.S. There was no wipe between OB and Launch but just wanted you to check the ships to make sure now that it has launched. It used to be ships 2 and 10 had high English, I’ll log in later and see if that’s still the case.
        Thanks!
        -Magicman

        • DeFiiNeZ on July 10, 2012

How do you understand the game when its all in japanese? i can understand you just play but how do you do quests and such im downloading the japanese version now but is there a way to translate the game?

          • Magicman on July 10, 2012

There is an english translation tool but Sega has said you can get banned for using it. I an able to somewhat read Japanese so I had at least the gist of most things but by no means will be giving a public opinion on it until I get in the fully localized version. 🙂
            -Magicman

          • DeFiiNeZ on July 10, 2012

ok thnx magicman i guess when i get it all installed ill try to get onto a ship with english players and just ask people for help and try my best to learn it.

        • Kyte on July 10, 2012

Oh, that’s right, it did get officially launched. My bad. My download isn’t finished yet [my net can be a huge butt sometimes] If you could get back to us on the ships, that’d be great.

And now I’m worried since I don’t know any Japanese. Yay.

          • DeFiiNeZ on July 10, 2012

Hey Magicman do you know if any other ships have english players? i cant get on ship 2 because it says its no longer taking registrations for that ship or something. Do you know if any other ships have english players on them? and if you do what blocks? Also do you know where i can get that english translator?

If you can answer any of these questions i would much appreciate it.
            Ty – DeFiiNeZ

        • Fightmaster on July 11, 2012

I am currently playing PSO2, there are English communities on ship 2 blocks 20+, ship 10 blocks 20+ (this is my ship), and since both are locked I think they are starting on ship 9 block 20. I speak no Japanese however there is a site with guides for everything PSO2 related you would need to know http://bumped.org/psublog/. Its pretty daunting at first I spent about an hour just reading psublog before I really started getting into the thick of the game.

          • Fightmaster on July 11, 2012

Oh I forgot to mention, the servers have been down for a lengthy amount of time they might be expanding server size and even adding more. When the servers come back up you should try one of the servers that was previously full. Right now 1-5 and 10 are full.

          • Kyte on July 11, 2012

Yeah, I heart 1~5 and 10 are character creation locked at the moment, got me worried because that’s where a majority of English players are. I hope they’re just expanding.

          • Kyte on July 11, 2012

Wow, *hear. Oops. But yeah, waiting to patch.

          • DeFiiNeZ on July 11, 2012

Dont count on it i was just playing right after the patch and ships 1-5 and 10 are still full im currently playing on ship 9. because i cant get on the other ships with the english players. But the servers just went down again so they might do an expansion. im not sure waiting to see when the servers come back up.

  17. crazystraw on July 9, 2012

Huh, cool. I most likely won’t be able to play it but I may follow news about it regardless. The only Phantasy Star one I ever played was on the DS and I enjoyed that one quite a bit. Probably won’t stop me from trying to download it when it’s out even though I am unsure about specs, eheh.

  18. Magicman on July 9, 2012

Haha. I LOVE that they made this official. I enjoyed the beta. The person above saying it’s failing in Japan already probably should wait more than 5 days after the official Japan launch to say it is failing/succeeding or really any opinion on game player stats. The cash shop feedback so far has been most outlets laughing at the sheer number of ridiculous vanity items available, not anything game breaking so far. Whatever though. Some people are never happy with anything I guess. In the end we’re talking about games and personal preferences though so it’s not a huge deal in the grand scheme. 🙂

Either way, I LOVE this news!

  19. Gabe Puratekuta on July 9, 2012

I can’t wait for it to be finished and released!

  20. Cleru on July 9, 2012

Played beta, playing on JP servers.
Even without reading the language after you figure everything out its very intuative and clean.
If you like better combat than PSU with more of PSO charm (MAGs and even some rares return like SOUL EATER :D) you should feel right at home.

  21. zenyth on July 9, 2012

reminds me a lot of S4League + i think it will be instance based

  22. Echoman on July 9, 2012

This game looks quite good, if its an open world and not instanced then its great, but 2013 is so far away, i hope 2012-12-21 world won’t end cause if it does end then im gona rage. 🙂

  23. Loxa on July 9, 2012

hhaaahhaa ^^ indeed, waren story sucks!

  24. cacalips on July 9, 2012

The cash system is going to kill it. Already failing in Jap

    • Kawaiido on July 10, 2012

Would you mind going into further depth with that statement?

    • Arauko on July 10, 2012

I play on the Japanese version and the payment system does not affect anything the game is not paid to win, is rather a paid for assuming

    • Fightmaster on July 11, 2012

Is it now, is that why every other day a different server gets locked because of over population?

  25. NotAlways10 on July 9, 2012

Awesome game! I wanna play it but why in 2013 and not 2012???

    • Rinor on July 9, 2012

Maybe because they dont want to give us a half complete game like some games “Cough” waren story “cough”

      be happy 😛

      • Arauko on July 10, 2012

you can play pso2 in japan, i’m playing with a friend and, we love it ^^, if you want play, send me an email, i told you how register

  26. DMflatron on July 9, 2012

    didnt like it :\

  27. ArcuiedxHolic on July 9, 2012

Is it instance based or persistent world. Its looks to be the first from the trailer.

    • ArcticUrsa on July 9, 2012

It said right in the trailer that maps are randomly generated, of course it’s not persistent

  28. slaughterer0 on July 9, 2012

wow umm thats a really big sword…. but i look forward to playing this actually …looks pretty nice.

  29. Norbert on July 9, 2012
