The Repopulation Being Ported To Unreal Engine; Code Being Rewritten From Scratch
After months of problems related to the Hero Engine -- and a lot of back-and-forth with the creators of the engine -- The Repopulation developers have decided to move the game to the Unreal Engine. Unfortunately for those waiting on the game, this means a pretty big delay. As the developers note in a post on the future of the game, most of the assets will move over, but the code has to be rewritten from scratch.
Understanding fans might be a bit put off by this, the developers have decided to create a spin-off set in the Repopulation universe called Fragmented. This game will be a trimmed down version of the original game and will use already existing assets. It will also be given away to all owners of The Repopulation.
The good news here is that The Repopulation has not been cancelled, just delayed. Fans will just get something to tide them over in the meantime. More information on the future of The Repopulation and what players can expect from Fragmented can be found on The Repopulation blog.
