When you think about pirates, you probably think about treasure… as well as things like death and scurvy… but, mostly treasure. When it comes to video game pirates, you probably think about virtual treasure. But! If you’re a player of Sea of Thieves, you’ll now have a chance to take on a special treasure hunt that requires doing work both in-game and out.
Rare announced a new mystery event titled “The Hoarder’s Hunt” this week dropping teasers and an explanation trailer on their YouTube channel. The event tasks players with solving a mystery and uncovering treasure by following clues that begin in the game, but require them to look outside the game for answers. They’ll then have to come back into the game to search out the locations indicated by their out-of-game research. At the end of the whole thing waits a special real-world reward – a golden skull. The explanation video includes and artists rendering of the prize. It looks like we’ll have to wait until it’s been awarded to see what it actually looks like.
The Hoarder’s Hunt begins on May 11 and lasts for four weeks. More details are available on the Sea of Thieves site.
